Mostly I play at a store because I'm a slob and don't want people wondering what that smell is. Also, the last time somebody did come over to play a game, one of my cats attacked him. So Tabletop it is.

I voted other as well.

I like the environment and the fact that I can meet new people and see tons of different armies. I can show off my paint job (which I never do), pick up a game (which I also never do), and buy stuff!

Most of our group of 40k players don't have their own place, so its a nice place to play those games plus countless board games. Even when one had room, people only go there to paint and drink.

The best part is we tend to hang out there just to get out of the house too. We will meet there before the bar, hang out all weekend. If we are lucky some of us even play a game.

Stores (and clubs) are places where you can play games against a broad spectrum of opponents, get new people into miniatures gaming, experience new games and have a couple of beers after the game at a nearby alehouse. Also, you can start building up a great terrain base through terrain days and organize events. In short, games and clubs are THE places to build a good, strong, mature community.

I do because my friends live all over the metro area and the store is a nice central location.

The fact that it's Fantasy Flight's Event Center and it's absolutely lavish doesn't hurt either.

I go to my flgs becuase they have some nice tbaoles/ terrain and it is centrally located in my town , I mostly play with the same group of people I hang out with on a regular basis, and while several of us have our own tables we still liek going to our flgs on saturdays and teachign eople to play and playing people who have scome to visit from the nearby university (FSU) or one of the other stores in the area looking for somthing different ( i'm apparently the only ork player in existance in my town that i've seen)

I voted other because in all honesty, I prefer gaming at home.

The reason I currently game at a "game shop" is that I am fairly new to my area, so I don't know many people who game. Of the ones at the FLGS there may be one or two that I'd invite over to the house for gaming. And, when settling our stuff into the new house, of course I found my armies and most progress in unpacking ground to a halt

Being in college, there is not really any room in my dorm for a table, and i dont really know any other college kids that play. Plus my FLGS is amazing and have earned my unending loyalty, I dont really buy anything from anywhere else now. Plus it is very easy to get games there, and they host tourneys and events that are great.

I have everything I need to game at home, but the only people I invite into my home are those I know and trust. Playing in a store allows me to meet new players on equal social terms.

I play in a store because there is nothing else. I don't have the space or time to run games at my house, and GW has expunged all FLGSs in my area, and the surrounding counties. it sucks royal nut, because the manager or the only store in reasonable driving distance of me is a bit of an arse and has driven at least 4 customers that i know of away. one of whom is even planning to open his own FLGS...

Lack of space is one, lack of my own terrain another. Mostly though is the fact that at my local store we are all friends and there is much fun whenever a game is going on. Plus rules clarifications are easier when you have others around to give you their opinions when in doubt.

Because there's plenty of well made tables and a huge stock of terrain for all kinds of games. And they have a kitchen and serve hot food.

My friends and brother all either have kids, not much gaming space, live too far away, or a combination of the above. While I do have a table, I don't yet have a lot of terrain and lack space.

The downsides are, if the store is closing, we need to wrap a game up, and we can't drink there. The benefits are always getting a good table to play on and being able to grab a burger while playing.

I put "other", because I only go to shops for tournaments. It gets me 3 games in one day and satisfies my gaming desires for a month at a time usually. I have no shops close to me that have regular gaming, up the hill is a bit too far but I may start making the trip now and then.

I've got the space at home, and my friend has a rather large attic we sometimes use (although his parents are a little strict; I'm free and clean with my own house). Sadly I don't have a gaming board (he does) and although I've offered he refuses to let me store/use it at my place (for.. some reason).

We used to play at this excellent FLGS which was a 5 minute walk from where I walk (only about 15 minutes from my house, too). Owner was friendly, had mad-terrain-construction-skillz, and stocked a whole load of stuff to tempt my once-bulging wallet (damn my car for ruining that!). Sadly, he closed down not so long back, so we're mostly confined to my place now. Not that I mind much...

We occasionally play at the local GW, but find their staff so abrasive and so desperate to sell things to you (especially with the new price increases over the last few days) it's becoming more and more annoying going in there and getting a quick game. Depending on who's working (we'll have a quick look in as we walk past) we'll most often skip the place entirely..

I game in both stores and peoples homes. The reason I game in stores is I support where I purchase my items. I generally have fully painted armies. Fully painted armies attract attention, which can lead to people either starting the game, or purchasing items for a existing or new army. This helps the stores where I have purchased the items stay open as they are a business. I

ts a nice circle. I purchase items -> play and patron in shop I purchased -> someone see's item played / enjoyed -> they purchase item if they want and it fits their needs.

I feel this is an important part of the hobby. General stereotype is gamers are anti social, slobs, and are not very interesting to non gamers. Ironically 90% of folks who goto GT / large tournments are smart, intellectual, jovial, and friendly people. Many are very competitive, but like to challenge themselves in many different ways. I'm a clean cut person, articulate, open, and have a good sense of humor. Its important for shop owners to have those gamers in the shop. Where people get greeted with a smile, dialogue is open and friendly, and that can draw in other potential gamers who may realize there is many sides to this plastic / metal little men hobby.

Y'see, this is why I don't game at a store.

My main club has both a cafe and bistro downstairs with hot food.
And a bar.
We can drink there, too.
(although the cafe and bistro do have hours when they are closed while we are there - there are enough fast food joints (from pizza to subway, kfc, etc within a 10 minute walk).
Admittedly, the FLGS in town also has access to the fast food nearby (a block), it's still a no-beer zone - and if I have to game in a place with WM/H players, I'm gonna need the beers.

Still, 90% of my gaming has been in clubs outside of stores. After all of that, gaming in a store somehow feels wrong. I drop into the FLGS now and then to buy stuff, but I can't make myself play there. It seems unnatural to me.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

The problem when I play at the store is noice and too many rules lawyers who intervene in your game. I have my own gaming area and a paint studio.

I voted no space. But really I play at an flgs cause of a few reasons. I don't have space, and have a wife and 2 year old daughter. And I don't have any close gaming buddies. So the only place I'm able to get games is a store 30 minutes away.

I have a two year old daughter.
Getting a two year old to distinguish between her toys and my incredibly fragile, expensive, and lovingly hand painted toys is....problematic.

Thus- FLGS

that's odd, because I actually have no such problem with my 2 year old... which means that when my 1 month old becomes 2 years, I'm probably gonna pay for it the hard way.

To get out of the house. I love my local store and I like supporting them. They took the time to teach me how to paint and play when no one else would. I owe it to them to come in with my armies and teach others.

There is also the fact that I don't have to really plan. I just kinda wake up, decide I want to play warhammer and call the store to see if anyone is there with warhammer looking for a game.

There is also no space at home and I only have 2 warhammer buddies close by. We occasionally played floorhammer but since my knee injury I haven't really been able to get a game going at home.

I did because I could just walk in and find a game. If my day off coincides with the FLGS's day for a game I play I may hang out most of the day and play against people with different schedules who come in at different times to play. Unfortunately ours is now closed.

I always have tables ready at home, and currently have a completely dedicated gaming room, but it's just better for me to go to a store. As it is I tend to spend lots of time and energy trying to get people together for game nights, and losing an evening waiting for people to show up to get one game in. Plus the number of people in my gamer friend group is a fair bit smaller than the larger player base around. With the varying ages, interests, and schedules of the players around it leaves me with a small group of people who can reasonably be included.

Of course, as has been said, it's also harder to drag in new blood from the second floor of my apartment than in a populated store. Especially one where I can even point potential players to products right next to us.

At some point I'd want these people to go away so I could enjoy some peace and quiet in my house - and that would be very bad for the store part.

I personally don't have a space for gaming, as I don't live in my own place. I also go to one if I didn't feel like getting something online (though the store I go does discounts for games-workshop related things).
