The Tau following Farsight have preformed the Ta'lissera ritual and bonded as a group(looked upon as one of the highest expressions of the greater good). Farsight is engaged fighting the War of Dakka against Grog Ironteef. They continued the fight after losing the etherals in battle and disobeyed orders to set up defenses on the frontier of the Damocles Gulf where they are engage up to their necks fighting orks at one point nearly being wiped out. (my guess is this is when contact was "severed")

Renagade Tau would be "off the reservation" engaging in unauthorized missions or operations, but not turning their backs on the greater good or the empire.

I would have to agree, the idea of a Tau group that just drops the ball completely sounds pretty far out of bounds.

I found this army a ways back and if I was going to do Renagade Tau I'd would take some inspiration from it This guys army looks really wicked awesome.
