Korean War could be good- lot's of different lists to use, lot's of nations involved, war was on quite a big scale. I definitely would be interested! It is true that the Communist side would be bit limited (only Chineese and N. Koreans available) but still interesting enough. More than Vietnam personally speaking, but then it's just me.

Not if my Typhoons have anything to say to that!

Not that I hope that typhoons would be attacking F15's anyways in the near future.....

But yea I think korea would be a tad logical. Its a bit like WW2 2.0.

Please, Korea wouldn't last more then a few weeks against the US(assuming we didn't just glass em with ICBMs)

China wouldn't help them in the current situation. Choosing between their little puppet and their biggest trade market, China would follow the money.

The NK army, and populace, is starving. War would only make this worse. Not to mention the outdated equipment they use, and the shoddy stuff they made themselves(I mean really, how desperate are you if you have to make, bad, fake new ICBMs )

Oh sorry, I must have messed up my message

The Korea thing was talking about the Korean War. You know, 25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953? You could still use Sherman tanks there (though they're outdated by then. Better swap them out for Pershings)

Moderns does encompass a fairly wide range, you have the arab-israeli wars, indo-pakistan, russo-sino, any number of African conflicts, Korea, Vietnam etc as well as the usual what if games. Plus even with Western Moderns theres plenty of scenarios from recent conflicts, Mogadishu, some of the battles in 1st gulf War, Falklands etc.

I mean Force on Force does it very well. http://ambushalleygames.com/

I was thinking stuff like that. You could also do current PRC, Russian Federation, EU, British, France, Germany, US, Canada. You could also have several different kind of insugrent lists based on their location (Mexican Cartels, South American communist insurgents, etc.)

Didn't they already declare Vietnam as their next period, or did that fail? I haven't really seen anyone playing it at my local store...

I think it was kind of a flop.

The local store has a bunch of the models and they are cool but we don't really have the money or the desire to play a whole new game set(nor do we have appropriate terrain)

We looked a vietnam at our club but there isn't a great deal of figures available. The ones we were interested in were pete the pig made.

I don't think modern would be a simple US call in the air support and its all over, otherwise the current situation in Afganistan and previously Iraq would have been over way sooner than it was.

Modern could encompass conflicts such as Somalia or Libya and the point of a game being that you can explore the possible outcomes of a country such as NK and China teaming up for an offensive against Japan and Russia for eg.

Yeah it would be very unlikely to happen due to import/export market pressure and crap equipment but to play it would be fun.

I have to agree with this comment. There's still plenty of meat on the bones.
There's the rest of the Bulge, the race across the Rhein. The assault (and thereby defence) of Berlin. Then there is the 'what if' - Patton going toe to toe with the Soviets (a new Late Late War era!) Then there are all the books to revamp not to mention a complete reboot on Early War.
After that, Korea and possibly for the Brits the Malaya Emergency could be worth a look.
Beyond that, WW1 looks a more likely candidate as it would fit the FoW rulesystem without massive tweaking.
As for BF coming out with new models. Why not, moulds to degenerate so why not take the opportunity to make a better job on an old mould?

Good topic though!

They have already done Veitnam but in a slightly strange way. They released a mini book for free with Wargames Illustrated and did a follow up article a few months later which expanded the forces, they also released a small range of models for these armies. I don't think that it has done very well as I have yet to see anyone actually play the game and I have never seen any of the models in a shop, then again I suspect that its appeal would be mainly limited to the US.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.
