I agree, would appear a lot is planned for early 2013 with nothing but 6th for the rest of this year.
I do however hope some truth exists in this, if not al of it at least some of it. The temptation to start an Ork force is growing and these types of plastic kit additions it would be hard not to be tempted with that carrot.

this rumor isn't completely inconsistent with the idea that future codices won't rely on later waves.
The "no more waves" concept was that every codex will come out with a full range during the initial release.
Older books will still need gaps filled in.

My biggest hope for the new edition is that it mirrors fantasy.
Not in the rules, but in the breakneck release schedule. Fantasy came out last year? And in that time they've already released quite a few army books. Empire, skaven, orc, VC, TK, ogres, with WoC coming out this year. Thats really pretty good progress at updating the system. Compared to 40k's maaaaybe 3 books a year, that's fantastic. If they can match the fantasy pace, we could see us some plastic MANZ next year.

Don't Kommandos need the plastic/Finecast treatment? And Boss Snikrot (the odd special character...)
But I am hopeful this rumour is truefax; the MANz would be particularly nice...

Kommandos got a forgeworld release.
I welcome any and all Ork releases.

Right, and I imagine some things were never really intended to get a new model, unless GW has a huge stock of completed casts and such that they just aren't releasing.
So my thought about starting to phase forgeworld stuff into the main game was drawn by.
1. apoc 2nd edition book specifically pushing towards it
2. Requiring increased production to hand more model kits being released at once, without slowing down codex releases
3. forgeworld is more expensive, and gw is a big fan of making people buy more expensive things

I think this is interesting, especially considering the rumored shift away from waves (Awesome if true - always need more MANz) This could be an attempt to finish the models for older armies as they shift into a new mode. It could also coincide with the Ork Codex going digital - or some other event - or just an open spot in the release schedule?
Buggies 3 in a box seems a bit odd to me - but it might be because we have been stuck with that crappy old buggy for so long. (FWIW - when that buggy arrived on the scene it was awesome - and it held up well until the 4th edition Ork codex and releases- it just can't compete with the trukk kit's awesome.)

Skaven came out before 8th edition was released, didn't it?
And I am seriously looking forward to these releases if true. I've got a ton of Koptas but would buy some new ones if the models were awesome enough. Buggies, on the other hand... Right now 30 bucks for one of those little craptastical old models is not worth the investment. 46.20 for 3, like Kans? All over it. Even at 54.50 for 3 I'd be okay with it if they had enough bits and gubbins... MANz I'd probably pick up just to pick up, assuming the models were neat; not sure they'd ever see play though.

Actually, my understanding of the removal of the waves concept was this (cribbed from Harry via Faeit 212):
I guess all they need to do to protect their Ip is to release everything that is new/been added before or with the codex and then the later waves can be stuff they are replacing/updating. 3 waves; Before, With and After. Something big : Before, rest of the new stuff : With, updated stuff : After.
And from Faeit 212:
Games Workshop may with the coming of 6th edition make sure that every new codex entry has all its new models in line, and release them all at the same time of the codex. This would certainly allow for models to be redone, in fact, they may even wait to redo models, or upgrade metal models at a later time.
In this context, release of new Ork models without a new Ork codex makes sense.
