Everyone's got gas masks! They're so passe. Moustaches are where it's at

Some have gas masks, some have fluffy hats. Only Vostroyans have both fluffy hats and gas masks.

There are several Valhallans like that too...

The only Valhallan with a gas mask is one particular running pose, and the only Valhallan with a Vostroyan-style furry hat is the colonel/Chenkov model.

I agree they don't really look good I dont know why.

We are winged salvation, but we are a terrible, final salvation, and our wings embrace the horizon with fire. We are the Blood Angels. To confront us is to die, and death is my remit, my reality, my unbounded domain. I have known death, and defeated it, claimed it as my own. To my cost, to my strength, death is my one gift to bestow, and I am nothing if not generous.

For that, there is every other Imperium made army.

My Cadians have way fewer skulls than Vostroyans do, or at least they did until I started attaching my own skulls here and there.

You, sir, have uncovered the maxim that every GW sculptor has drilled into their head. Bravo!

Orks can never have enuff dakka, Tyranids can never have enough teeth, Chaos can never have enough spikes, the Tau can never have enough flashing lights, the Eldar can never have enough curves, the Dark Eldar can never have enough BDSM, and the Imperium can never have enough SKULLS.

I don't play IG, but if I did it would be these guys. The weaponry is unique in its look, no other 40k army has a look like this. The mustaches because 'real' men have them. The furry hats because nothing says I have giant testicles better than wearing a giant furry hat that tells the enemy EXACTLY where you are no matter how well you hide in the snow.

Honestly if I didn't try to make my entire IG army more modern/scifi looking I would definitely add a platoon or two of Vostroyans, the only question would be if they would be mechanized infantry or foot sloggers.

When they were first released, I have to say I wasn't a fan of the Vostroyan aesthetic. But over the years, after seeing some beautifully painted Vostroyan armies, they've sorta grown on me. If I didn't already have an Imperial Guard army (an all-metal one, to boot!), I'd probably go with the big V. I also tend to like rarer or more niche forces, and you almost never see Vostroyans on the tabletop.

Vostroyans are probably my second favourite Guard line. I'm a Mordian man through and through, but if I had a second Guard army, it'd be Vostroyan.

Any army that lets you grow facial hair is cool in my book.

My favorite regiment is mordians, but i really do like the vostroyans. But i'd have all the grunts gas-masked, with a more plate-y armour, like the guy stabbing the Tau on the CoD book. And i'd probably make it by using cadians with lots of greenstuff, because i'm just thrifty like that. Or maybe i'm just a cheap bastard.

Unfortunately, the people sculpting the other Guard regiments didn't get that memo. Cadians have only two or three skulls per guy (not counting the one inside their head), pretty shameful for an Imperial army.

Really it becomes a matter of personal preference. Like others have said, some people just don't like them. Some are fascinated by them.

I am currently looking at starting an IG army, while Vostrayans are not my current top contender they are up there.

What is most important to me are that my army is rarely seen on the table. Nowadays its not just Vostroyans, but pretty much every regiment BUT Cadians and Catachans.

And considering prices now, it is pretty dang close to build an IG army out of metal figures from other regiments when compared to the Cadian/Catachan "cheaper versions"...

Personally I will probably go with either Tallarn or Valhallan. Valhallan being my first choice simply because their squad box does NOT come with a heavy weapon.

I've kind of got a thing for Valhallans, if you care to check the links in my sig
I'm all for people starting armies using unusual models. I don't think I've actually seen any Vostroyan models in person before, and I've been around. I'd love to play against an army of them.

My guess is they like the fluff or the player who owns them is just into steam punk looking models.
