I'm kind of on the fence with it. It's certainly not a magnificently monsterous monster, but it's weird enough to catch your eye.
However... the paintjob sucks and doesn't do it any favours. I actually thought that the feathers were fungus on his wings at first, and I think fungus might have been a cooler idea and tie it into the forest theme.
The antlers are okay, but look more like the (smaller) Fallow deer rather than a (bigger) Red deer, which would make more sense, and be more evil and spiky.
The pose of the wings reminded me of the vampire dragon too...
Maybe a better paintjob would do it more justice?
(and what's with it being so small?)

It would have been better, if they stayed closer to the original Peryton design http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peryton .
Simple reptile paint job and feathers on bat wings don't do the model any favour.

What a godawful miniature. I am tempted to quote Milton.
If thou beest he—but O how fallen! how changed
From him who, in the happy realms of light
Clothed with transcendent brightness, didst outshine
Myriads, though bright!
I.e. FW ain't what she used to be.

I agree with that - chaosifying it did it no favours.

Not that that's ever stopped people before.
Design-wise, the miniature is all over the place. It looks mostly hairless, but with a few scraggly bits of fur here and there. And it has membraneous wings with the odd feather haphazardly sticking out here and there, which is an odd combination indeed

Ignoring the possibility that it might have in fact been the point, the technical values of the sculpt itself are very good. Good value definition, reasonable anatomy, good detail in good measure.

and let's not forget it's **supposed** to be hideous, ugly-as-hell and just a random ("chaotic") hodgepodge of creatures, once again with hideous being the frikkin' point

I terms oh sheer size, the miniature looks puny, but there I think the fault lies more with GW making massive monsters like the new Griffon or Hell Pit Abomination. The Preyton is, really, appropriately sized for something that could conceivably eviscerate and eat a full grown man.
The more I consider it, the more I like the scaling, since I think the game evolving to where every monster is an absolutely gargantuan beast is starting to annoy my eyes. I still maintain that the model is not up to their earlier standard, however, and that's a belief fire cannot burn away from me.

OK I've gotta call you out "His Master's voice".
No less than 3 times have your stated that the sculpt is technically flawless and the anatomy is dead on. Please explain what is going on on the right arm? Where is the shoulder? Is that another joint above the tricep? Where does the arm terminate distally into the metacarpals? I mean I can't figure out What the heck is going on with it. I won't even bring up the head.

While that's a fair point... I always wonder about people saying models are/aren't anatomically correct. As in, how many of those people have actually had anatomy (I certainly didn't have to take it)
Not to mention the whole "fantasy model" thing, etc etc.

And probably should get new paints. Or at least paint in more than one colour.
Great Stag wasn't such a bad model.
Thought honestly I don't see anywhere near £25 in that model, perhaps £15 at most. You could butcher it for bits but in the end it's just a really average models, much like my response to the K'daii Fireborn it just does nothing for me (and the artwork is much cooler).
Let's hope the magma dragons (when they come out eventually) aren't another Preyton.

When the unpainted gray resin shows more detail than your finished, painted model, something has gone horribly awry.
That said, looking at the blank actually makes me like it much more than the painted version. Yes, it's supposed to look ugly, but if it's fooling questing knights then the coloring makes little to no sense.

It's...okay. Kinda plain-looking but I'd rather have that than the alternative, which with GW is so over-the-top and covered in skulls and trinkets and other random gak to a point way past ridiculous. The worst thing is the price, about $40 for what looks to be a rather small model.

No. I said the anatomy is reasonable for a fantasy monster, if you ignore that fact that he'd probably never fly with this muscle structure. Value definition, which again is very good here, is not the same as anatomy.

I think it's pretty poor. I say, there was a point when every damn release from Forge World was incredible, week after week - even things I wouldn't ever get I admired. Either their quality has been slipping or I'm just getting jaded.
I'd prefer to have the snout somewhat elongated and have more numerous, yet smaller, teeth.
Also, came for this release's MGS retelling of that miniature guy's story, leaving disappointed. :/

Compared to most other WF models, this one falls way short. The mouth is terrible, the pose is terrible, the paintjob is easily the most terrible part of it so far.
Of all the Monstrous Arcanum models they could have done, they picked a mediocre one and gave it a mediocre model.
Where are my Dread Saurians and Magma Dragons?
There are so many cooler things they could be doing instead of doing split kits and ugly middle of the road units. I guess I'll sit here patiently waiting for some better looking nasties to throw at my wife.
