Run loads and eat less gak.

And enjoy yourself.. War is awesome.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Well I visited a recruiter today and unfortunately I can not join the Army. Because of my "mental illness" history and that plain fact that they are over maned at the moment. It is heartbreaking to say the least, but I will press on and try to find another way to serve. I think I will try to get my old civil service job back. Anyway, thanks for all the advice guys.

It's sad they don't do BCT there anymore. Misery, Agony and Heartbreak were great for getting in shape.

And feth them very much. I'm not a treadhead so I don't know how hard it is to do, but Heartbreak stalled out an Abrams which took out the guard rail and was getting fished out by an M88 when we went up on our 12k. It killed a tank bro....a tank.

lol... now that's funny.
I saw an M88 hauling a Bradley out of the roadside ditch once. (anybody that's been to Hard Knox knows how deep those ditches are lol) Driver managed to go nose down in it.

That sucks man... I feel for you. I tried to reenlist myself in 2001 and got booted because of the bolts holding my head on. Another suggestion, and one that may not be as active and gung-ho, but try the coasties... The US Coast Guard was going to take me with the spinal fusion, and certian areas get to shoot at drug runners... just a thought.

The Army is facing something to the scale of 1 of every 9 Soldiers is about to get cut, so yeah their only taking the cream of the crop right now.

If your really interested in serving, try with the AF again. Or as another suggested, the USCG. You don't get to see as much of the world, but you do get some pretty decent assignments within the country.

I've been in the army reverves for about 11 years now, and even work for the marine corps as a civilian DOD cop. Staying in shape as a part time soldier with little natural inclination to work out has been a challenge, I'm not gonna lie, it's a hell of a lot easier to do when you wake up and PT with your unit everyday

I second the recomendation cross fit, that stuff will whup your rear but good.
Another possible option that has been my go to when time and money allows has been muay thai training. Serious old school muay thai training. (I acutally get worked and motivated about it, unlike most PT, because apparently I'm a masochist )

Both of these offer some SERIOUS cardio, with the added advantages of being supervised and structured (ie you'll go and wind up working yourself hard even when you don't really feel like it- this is important trust me)

Also this. Try a guard recruiter, they have separate budgets and recruitment needs.

One shouldn't feel inadequate because they're not serving their country... if that was the case, I'd be downright suicidal; I've had the odd temptation to consider a military life (what young males haven't?) but I'm a humanities-reading wimpy nerd with the assertiveness of a lemon peel. Even if that were enough to be an enlisted man, the pay's just not good enough for a graduate 'n' Officers need balls that I don't have
