Lets mathammer it out. Lets take 10 banshees with an exarch and executioner, which clocks in at 182 points to 5 TH/SS termies.

Banshees vs TH/SS Termies
WS 4 vs. WS 4 = 50.00% chance to hit,
S 3 vs T 4 = 33.33% chance to wound (increase to 55% with Doom)
TH/SS had invuln save = 33.33% chance to get through.
50.00% × 33.33% × 33.33% × 18 attacks = ~0.99 Dead TH/SS termies

Exarch vs TH/SS Termies
WS 5 vs. WS 4 = 66.66% chance to hit,
S 5 vs T 4 = 66.66% chance to wound (increase to 89% with Doom)
TH/SS had invuln save = 33.33% chance to get through.
66.66% × 66.66% × 33.33% × 2 attacks = ~0.29 Dead TH/SS termies

TH/SS Termies vs Banshees
WS 4 vs. WS 4 = 50.00% chance to hit,
S 8 vs T 4 = 83.33% chance to wound
50% × 83.33% * 10 attacks = ~4.1 dead banshees

There are a few caveats. We can expect 1 TH/SS termie to be dead before he can swing, so your going to have ~3 dead banshees the first round of combat. If the banshees get the charge, you might have 2 dead TH/SS the first round, resulting in a tie combat. By the end of turn 1, the termies are down 20%-40% of their fighting force, while the banshees are down ~40%.

Its that lack of an invuln save that kicks the banshees in the jimmies. Now, if they get a 5+ parry save and you can fortune them, then the banshees can ignore 55% of the incoming attacks. They fill a similar role that dire avengers with fortune and shimmershield can, but instead of reducing one attack they can smack down with power weapons.

On the other note, yes I always give my avengers defend/shimmershield. I had a squad of paladins assault them, and watched his surprised face when his 8 man paladin squad had 8 swings and I was getting a 55% invlun save from them. He spent half the game grinding away 12 point models while my foot'dar clobbered the rest of his army!

Ok so it's relatively close to a draw. And a lot of the outcome. Depends on the banshee's attack - if they kill 2 termis they should Win. Only 1 dead and they have to sweat it.

Regarding the avengers, I have had a ton of success with that combo as well. I even occasionally use asurmen in fun games as well.

If banshees get the invuln from perry that helps them survive, but their days of killing termis is over. And asurmen gets horribly nerfed since he already has a 4+ invuln. I guess the rest of the PLs get a boost, though they get defanged versus any kind of termi.

Well, the number of termies the banshees will kill is reduced by 50%, as the saves will go from 2/3 to 1/6. The banshees (if fortuned) will gain a invlun save of 55%, increasing their survivability vs the termies.
It seems to me that those two nearly cancel each other out, with a small advantage to the banshees.

My point is that we don't really see that many 2+ save units on the board today. I do not expect that to change much in 6th edition as the change to rapid fire weapons will make PGs more common -- which will in turn lower the number of 2+ save units brought. They will be there, but their going to be a small percentage.

What does this mean to the banshees? Overall their combat effect will be increased as they will get a parry save vs most foes, and still slice apart power armor like butter. They might even be something people might want to bring over a squad of fire dragons -- depending on how the 6th edition assault rules turn out.

It just seemed like an effort of a whole craftworld. What awakens him is a battle lust of numerous Eldar and influence of the Infinity Circuit. A long and careful ceremony of war, bringing Khaine from slumber by a collective Eldar minds.
Resurrecting him on a battlefield feels more like "Instant Avatar, add Exarch".

More possible is making Avatar additional objective, Bjorn style.

The infinity circuit has nothing to do with the Avatar - wants nothing to do with the Avatar. The circuit despises and pities exarchs and refuses to let even an exarch communicate with it, why would the circuit even want to touch an awakening Avatar? Autarchs, I should probably add, aren't compatible souls since they (and regular aspect warriors) aren't Khaine's creatures. The awakening ceremony is relatively short, though, but unsuitable for the battlefield.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Agreed. I do support the idea of a Phoenix Lord reincarnation however. Indeed I included such a rule in my Eldar fandex, with the following wording:

"If a Phoenix Lord has its last wound removed, instead of removing the model from play, the player may lie it on its side. If an Exarch from a unit of that Phoenix Lords ‘disciples’ is placed in base-contact with the Phoenix Lord then replace the Exarch with the Phoenix Lord, who will return to play – counting as joined to that Exarch’s unit - with one wound remaining. The Phoenix Lord may act as normal after being ‘reborn’. A Phoenix Lord only contributes a kill point if they have 0 wounds remaining at the end of the game."

"It is the great irony of the Legiones Astartes: engineered to kill to achieve a victory of peace that they can then be no part of."

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

These are all hopes for a new codex:

More psychic powers built into the army, and more Tactical abilities akin to the autarch's powers.

I don't think the transports need to be all that much cheaper. Some price cuts on the guns would be nice, but I'd rather the units be more useful than continue to be vaguely helpful, but more effective as transport taxes.

I'd also like more weird and wacky wargear. I think they need more arcane technology that helps them get things done in ways that are fairly unique. Hopefully this will help aspect squads to be doing more interesting things, while staying within their fluff.

As for the rulebook? I can't say I have much hope for it at all. Maybe the skimmers will get a little better, or be able to shoot more things at once, maybe blasts will get more effective at penetrating vehicles, that would be nice. These things mainly contribute to a cheesy atmosphere though. I would rather eldar benefit beyond being able to use the builds it is boxed into slightly more effectively.

Maybe rumored general bonuses will be awesome. Maybe new USR and Psychic cards will give the eldar more play with the all important farseer and less reliance on them. I get the feeling it won't though. Eldar just aren't the unparalleled psychics and ageless mavens that the fluff makes them out to be. Hahahaha actually, that last one also applies to CSM. Funny eh?

Um no. Fulgrim was as good as a dead meat pile Vs the Avatar. Primarch Vs Avatar is silly. Fulgrim is top 5 Melee Primarchs. The only reason Fulgrim beats the Avatar is because slannesh warns him that the spear begins to turn back around and hit him through the FACING head. Fulgrim, would have lost if he fought the avatar without the larien sword. So Primarch vs Avatar is no contest. Calagar should never have been able to kill the Avatar that is the worst writting ive ever seen and it pisses me off beyond belief every time i think of it.

The top five melee primarchs are

1. Sanguinus
2. Night Haunter
3. Lion el johnson or Fulgrim.

Dorn, Horrus, Manus, are in the middle somehwere.

The Lion beats Russ, and Russ is the same as angron. And haunter pwns the lion with his bare hands, Corax is affraid of haunter...
Mortarion, Magnus, Lorgar are crap.

Perterbo is pretty much the same as Russ, Angron but smarter with less power, but he has forgebreaker so who knows.

The only primarch who should be able to beat an avatar is sanguinus. He was 2nd choice for warmaster, and would have destroyed horrus if he wasent pumped up on chaos juice.
