Same here. I usually have to take a few seconds to adjust by brush strokes while using the magnifying glass, but it's a huge help when painting all the little fiddly bits on my Dark Eldar.

I always found the limit of my fine detail abilities were my hands and not my eyes. The optometrist said I don't "need" glasses, but for reading they might "help" so I never got any. Maybe I just have overly shaky hands, but my biggest problem painting eyes and such has always been shaking and hitting the wrong spot rather than not being able to see the right spot.

I did try a magnifying glass and as others said, need retraining in depth perception so I just gave up after failing at painting a few models

$30 for an Optivisor (start with the #5 lens) is a really minor cost compared to the cost of minis and it will give you the potential to be a much better painter as far as laying down cleanly delineated colors.

I used one when I was making jewelry only for setting tiny diamonds (1.5 - 2mm) in channel settings where you hammer the gold down over the edges of the diamonds to secure them.

Now that I am older I use them for all detailed painting projects.
