Back when I worked in Fast Food, My love of money and complete disregard of sleep( thanks to years of playing MMOs prior to working) it was not uncommon for me to work from 8AM to Midnight for days at a time. At one point, when almost everyone quit except for me and the Managers, I went about a month straight 7 days a week 8am to midnight. Let's just say I partook in some consumption of 5 hour energy and Energy drinks, usually at the same time, and always followed with a Mountain Dew.

Now I work in a Printing/Shipping store, which closes at 6:30(thank god) So Now I'm back to just regularly drinking Mountain Dew because it's the greatest drink known to man.

I start my days with a double espresso - no sugar.

It keeps me going fine.

It's also the ONLY caffeine I get all day.

I like my coffee black and bitter - it goes with my soul.

OTOH, "energy" drinks aren't just caffeine loaded - they are also loaded with sweetener for the one-two punch - and they taste like gak. I'd rather gargle gasoline.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Caffene doesn't do much by itself. What it does is make the body burn blood sugar at a more rapid rate.

Found that out the hard way once. Drank an entire six-pack of Nitro once, with minimal effect. (Nitro was a 'pre-energy drink' soda, extremely heavily caffenated, and was marketed as 'It's not pop, it's KA-BOOM!' But it was a very dry soda, not very sweet at all.) Then I had a cup of my trademark 'crunchy' (read: saturated with sugar) Kool-Aid... and for about ten minutes I thought I was going to die as the sugar hooked up with all that caffene...

I drink more coffee than Columbia produces coffee beans. When I first started I had a little coffee maker in my cube. Mmmm memories.

You sound like my Dad. Holy hell that man can consume an unhealthy amount of black coffee He owns a thermos, and when he goes some where, he takes it with him. He also has a "truck coffee cup" that he keeps in his truck

What I think is crazy is that people feel the need to take the stuff in the first place. If they only realized that if they didn't drink the stuff then they would sleep better and not need the crap in the first place.

The McDonald's commercial with "tom is a morning person" perfectly illustrates how it works. Everyone else isn't a morning person till they get their cup of joe. Tom doesn't need it because he isn't going through caffeine withdrawal like the rest. Yeah that commercial didn't last long did it? They realized quickly that if people figured out what was really happening, then people might actually wake up with out their coffee.

I don't drink coffee or tea; both taste gross to me. I buy rockstar recovery by the case, but I only drink 1 a day around 10:30 ish. Not a lot of sugar (2g sugar / 20cal for an entire 16oz can), but 160mg of caffeine. Rest of the day is water, with a small bottle of juice in the morning with breakfast.

I can skip my caffeine, I'm just not sure why I'd want to. I don't get the jitters, it's early enough that the caffeine doesn't keep me up at night, plus the 30mcg of Vitamin B12 keeps me going until lunch.

I did give up caffeine completely at one point. When I was in college I was drinking Mountain Dew and Jolt pretty much exclusively (needless to say I gained a bunch of weight I'm still working to lose...). Decided to go cold turkey and for days had the worst headaches I've ever experienced. That was also when I switched to water, which I'm glad I did.

I once had some red bull when I was staying at MDS and Aurelia's house for a late night RPG session, anyways about an hour later I fell asleep (which I blame on the Red Bull) and had to be poked awake for game to start to much to my embrassment, needless to say Red bull is pants and since then I have never touched the stuff.
