I found it amusing that the blitz took a break over the weekend. Every soldier needs a break I guess. Or maybe the blitz occurs on the weekend, and there are just deals during the week.

We figured a lot of people don't check websites a often over the weekend... and my schedule can get a bit wonky over the weekend at times.

I'm going to bump this because I think this is actually a ridiculously great way to get people into this game.

The starter sets for each major faction are basically $90 right now. That's 9-10 metal mini's in most cases (more with some like Utopia, less with others like Black Talons where each mini is bigger than counterparts and you need fewer), a rulebook, a rulebook errata update, both containing all the stats for most models and variants, a tape measure and some dice.

Literally everything one needs to start running typical sized games right out the gate except for terrain and a table.

If anyone is thinking of getting into Heavy Gear right now, this is the best time to do it.

A couple new things from DP9!

First is the Badlands Outpost set, a box set of the Badlands scenery: kits previously available separately. This will be available in stores:

Next, we have a full lsit of GenCon activities listed. Also, GenCon attendees will have the first shot at a special Razor Fang Black Mamba with standard mini. This mini was inspired by Golden Gear 2011's Best Army Winner, Dmitriy Pakhomov's amazing miniature conversions, as seen in issue 5 of Gear Up magazine.

Finally, Beasts of War has a pic of the new Southern mech, the Drake:

There'll be twenty of these available at GenCon as well!

By the way, apparently the Drake (above) is considered a Gearstrider similar to the Cataphract... So it's about twice as big as a normal trooper gear!

(In 40k terms, it's probably less massive than a Dreadnought... But similar in height.

Yeah, it looks pretty big. The fact that is has macross/robotech like INTERNAL rocket pods is what first drew my eyes.

edit: Some pics came out of the new "gear" (some debate on the official forums if that is what it really is) and it's definitely big. I'm not sure I like the particular shapes of some of the weapons and other details... at a minimum, I'd have to replace the head with something not so comically small. I've never been a fan of the viper tiny head design.

I don't have any strong opinions on the rocket pods myself but I might end up using my old RAFM scale left over bits to replace the bazooka with the old scale heavy bazooka (assuming that is what it is). I'm curious to see which internal "bomb bay" chest options are available or if its only the AGMs. Dave said over in his thread with the model pics that there are 3 chest options. Options (like Fezzes) are cool.
