I hope that this post will meet most of your criteria, I represent one out of the five wargamers who have helped to create this game; we are just waiting for 100 'Likes', before we can release the basic game rules. You can use any models, and any scale, and won't really cost anything. This game also doesn't require dice, which may be an added bonus for the beginner wargamer.

To all Dakka Dakka members,
A veteran team of table top war gamers have been developing a new war game which attempts to link RTS style unit creation with tabletop wargaming, but without the use of dice; I know it sounds a bit odd at first, but we hoped that children, and first time players would prefer to play a game with a more simple and less complex rule set without impacting on unit variation; this would mean a game would not take so long to play, an area where children’s attention span can waver; and that the rules would not restrict our audience too much.
After showing my idea to a team of fellow war gamers at my local hobby store in Somerton, we put together a more polished and refined game; it became copy written as Battle Fortress.
Veteran war gamers who have played this game, did not prefer it to a dice based gaming systems, but found it a ‘”breath of fresh air” to throwing dice, and enjoyed not having a well planned strategy spoiled by a dice roll of 1!
Armed with a laptop, we created a facebook account, and started an advertising campaign to find 100+ war gamers that would like to test our game as to avoid any mistakes in our final rules that our team may have missed i.e. over powered or under powered unit.
With this in mind, I am writing to you to ask whether members would like to gain an advance copy of the BETA rules, to see whether this game is worth taking further, and if any urgent changes need to be made.
We are currently in discussion with Airfix, who may be interested in joining this gaming system.
In the future, Battle Fortress would like to produce many new books, showcasing new ‘races’, scenarios, missions, campaigns and help to organise new tournaments around the world, to further its appeal to all war gamers, beginners or veterans.
Thank you for taking the time to read this article.
For more information please see:
www.battle-fortress.com or visit us on Battle Fortress on facebook.
If you wish to contact us directly, please email us on:

PS: The models shown are from Airfix, and will only cost around £20 for an ample selection of troops and vehicles for each army. Hope this helps

Nice suggestion. But as a representative of a the game. Please be so kind to introduce yourself and your posts as such rather than posting as if you are just someone who just " found them on facebook". You didn't "find them" on facebook. You ARE them. If you hadn't posted elsewhere that this game was your idea, the post above would be pretty close to sock puppetry. As it is it's still shady.

No need to be less than upfront. Trust us to judge the game on it's merits.

Staying on target.....

I've just got warlords bolt action and the rules are so simple I read them half asleep with a hang over and understood them. If you don't know it's WW2 28mm scale game that features all the classic tanks and also some more uncommon sights on the fields.

Price wise, well I just bought some para's for 1000 pts and they cost around £100 which is all I will ever need

However if you want something sci-fi, X-WING! JUST DO IT!
Seriously this game is fantastic, simple system, can be played in 45mins for tight time frames or to play multiple times in an evening and you can get enough to play between all your mates for £100. For me, it's the best value game out there right now!

Mercs would also be a pretty good game to get you and your buddies into([url]http://www.mercsminis.com/). It has good models, cool factions, and is overall a nice, clean sci-fi game that wouldn't be dangerous for your daughter in any way. Also, you buy a faction box for 60$ and you have everything you need to play. You can stick with what comes in the army box, or you can buy some different minis to add variety to your army, but either way, you will always have a small handful of models to use.

With that said, I shall back away slowly and ominously and disappear in a puff of smoke, then smuggle some fruit across the border in order to stay competitive with the veggie cartel.

If we're pimping our own games, check out MechaWar:

http://precinctomega.co.uk

It only costs £1.00 and you can buy enough plastic mech models from em4miniatures for two medium-sized armies for less than £10.00, even including P&P.

Looks pretty cool. Can you tell us more about the mechanics. My current go-to game for mecha is "mech attack" but I'm always trying out new rulesets.

I second that. 1 GBP is cheap enough to pick up just for the giggles, but a preview of the mechanics is always nice.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

OK. Well, you get a pool of points with which to design and customize your mechs (basic customizing just involves shifting the values of stats around).

Each mech gets two actions per turn which can either be spent as part of the mech's activation or as a (you only get one) reaction to another mech. Actions are move, move & shoot (and vice versa), shoot and repair. Reactions are the same, less repair.

All weaponry is wrapped up in a single "firepower" stat which describes your pool of shooting dice. The game uses d12s but for those who don't have the half dozen or so required, the designer's notes include an explanation of how to use d6s instead (although the experience is improved with d12s).

When you shoot, you have to roll equal to or over the effective range to the target (the range, in inches, plus the armour (A) of the target). You roll a number of dice equal to your FirePower (FP) and can group them together to make hits. So if I have a target 14" away and have FP5, I roll five dice getting 2, 6, 6, 9 and 12. I can group the 12 and 2 together for a hit (which is also a critical, due to the 12) and a 6 and the 9 for a second hit.

My opponent then rolls a number of dice equal to his Defensive Systems (DS) stat and must try to match the dice I've rolled to hit. Any that match cancel those dice. He has DS3, so rolls three dice and gets 1, 6, 11. The 6 cancels one of my sixes but as I had two of them, there's no effect and he still takes two hits.

Damage is applied to his stats (Motive Power or MP being the fourth). Normally, he chooses which stat to reduce. If I roll a critical (which I did) then I get to choose. So he reduces his MP by 1 and I choose to reduce his AR by 1.

When a mech's MP is 0 it can't move. When its FP is 0 it can't shoot. When its AR is 0 it's dead. You can't reduce DS with shooting.

I think that's a succinct potted explanation. There are also rules for collisions (ramming speed!), advanced rules to create commanders, minelayers, engineers and assault mechs and basic scenario rules (the game works best if you make up a mission, but I'll be releasing a free mission generator very soon).
