This entire discussion about bringing IG guardsmen is a bit ridiculous. 6 days out of 7 I'd prefer to have Ork boyz. They're tougher, weapons are better, and frankly, the only thing guardsmen have are the heavy weapon squads. Between Nobz, Lootas, Boyz, and Broadsides, you've got everything covered.

Maybe something like 2 LR Executioners and a Manticore, but otherwise, Tau fill in Ork tactical gaps much better than IG do.

Orks best ally is ork dredbash. (if/when FW becomes legal)

Kff mek can be an allied HQ which allows for the core list to take dual warbosses for more troopnobz.

Spannas make a nice cheap troop and decent with 5+ inv.

Now that you got your HQ and troop taken care of...

Dredbash can take:
*burna boyz with a dedicated transport
*deffkoptaz with cheaper buzz saws
*liftawagon/megadred
*HS lootas
*5pack kanz/3pakc dredz as a single slot.

You can also pack at Least 5 SAGs and 60 lootas into a 1999 or less army via a dred bash ally.

The dread mob has the beyond-awesome Painboss, which is basically Mad Dok Grotznik without the mad part. He didn't get much attention in IA8 as the dread mob doesn't have a lot of good infantry units, but as brothers of arms he can join any of your units for FNP. I'd take that over an additional warboss any day.

I would only take the guardsmen because you have to take a troop choice when you bring allies (I don't have my BRB in front of me but I'm pretty sure that's the case). I just want a primaris psyker but I still haven't heard any feedback on whether anyone thinks teaming a full fledged psyker with Orkz (for the non-blessing abilities) is worthwhile or not.

i currently have a squad of harliquins screening everything up front with a shadowseer, led by the avatar, a wraithlord in back with a missile launcher and lance or scatter laser and guardian jet bike troops zoomign around

Surely an IG DML should be high on any Ork's wislist?

Eldar are desperate allies though. You can't get within 6" of them.

Rune priest with grey hunters in a drop pod.
Just make an ork gunline and stay 6'' away, though probably within 24'' to get the defence from the rune priest.
Curve ball idea I know, but it does plug a hole in the ork armoury.
