Point is, we have no way of knowing what would actually happen. Could be that the plains warriors would just enslave the city people. Sounds reasonable to me. Of course the Ethereals would say "you would have gone extinct without us!"

Probably, but I think the Etherals really do believe that themselves.

Is it bad that there is so much about Tau fluff that we don't have anything to go off of? Even something as basic as "whats the difference between genders?" and "What is that S**T on his face?"

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Oh I agree. When we were building all those nuclear missiles, we really thought the Communists were evil.

I think it is bad.

This points out to me (1) why a new dex is so desperately needed and (2) why it will be so difficult to write.

Yes, it is bad and it will most likely stay this way in the next codex. This is because GW, RARELY ever writes from the xenos pov.

When it comes to backstory, almost everything written is imperium-centric and what backstory/fluff that is written from the xenos pov is done by novelist that could care less about the original backstory or design concept.

On the bright side, the Tau are not alone in this. The Eldar backstory has changed so much over the editions that no-one really knows what their biology is really like. Heck, back in 2nd ed, I belive, there was a Half-elf Space marine character.

The ork fungus amoungus biology is rather recent also.

My point is that if it ain't SM or Guard, there is not much to go on unless Abnett wrote a novel about the race.

I think the NewCron book shows that GW may be willing to give the factions more personality. When you look at the third edition codices, there was basically no fluff. Instead, there were a few pages of hints and teases. I'd say we'll get more info on Tau. And of course some people will vomit blood in rage over the issue.

Vomit blood? Never from rage and only once from drinking and that was yeeaaarrrs ago...... Public Service Announcement- Kids, alcohol abuse is not cool.

If the Fluff-killer really butchered the Tau, I'd most likely cut my collection down to just my first 4000pt Tau army and then use the extra space and money generated by the sell-off to start a FoW army with the rest going to bulding an addition to the workshop.

Of course, this is all supposition that GW would do something like turn the Tau into an Imperial/SM protectorate. xenos IG or worse.
