A halberd is somewhat a poled axe which can also double as a spear, but the rulebook explicitly said that it's counted as an axe only, not an axe and a spear whenever you like.

So I'd say if you want to model something obscure and say it's a maul-axe-spear-sword-bazooka-submarine-tank...
...for friendly games, why not? Then again, I also expect in friendly games, you can say your sword-wielding sarge to be an axe-wielding one as well.
...for games with strangers, tourny or something where you're not playing with friends, then you'd just be inviting arguments and confusions, much easier to just go with magnetise models if you planned on switching between the 4 options a lot.

I mean, the goal is to have fun, why model some ancient weaponry and then have to argue over whether it's a shark, axe, plane, bird, superman, or a sword? Wouldn't you rather just get the game started and start rolling randomhammer?

A traditional Halberd is more of an axe/spear combination than GW's model of a "Halberd" is.

I just meant by the rulebook's example, they did say a halberd is just an axe.

And GW's halberd is more a glaive, no?
