Don't get me wrong, when the time comes, I fire them. I just plan for their complete and utter ballistic failure. I take the saves they get, I just don't plan to make any. I plan around Infantry Squads doing the single least useful thing that the dice make possible, whether it's keeping something in combat I wanted to shoot or getting blasted off an objective, I plan pessimistically.

When it comes to Veterans, or HWTs, or vehicles, I play a slightly conservative drift from the average.

When I'm shooting at that last terminator, I'm not expecting my lasguns to do anything (I'm expecting my plasgun to do something). But sometimes they do, and I feel happy.

Poetry? This is war! We don't sing songs about winning, we kill people dead! With lasguns!

On a more serious note, weapons like lasguns are actually pretty cost effective against either stuff with 2+/3++ saves or stuff with low toughness and armour saves, like other guardsmen, because expensive special weapons like plasma guns either bounce of the inv save or is complete overkill against the weaker opponents.

What he's trying to say is that while he fires them, he doesn't RELY on them killing things. He plans on having enough redundant firepower ready to kill a last couple of models as opposed to "ah, the lasguns might handle it".

I see where he's coming from and it's a similar attitude I use. I use my lasguns, but I don't use them as a crutch. The kills they get are bonuses, not the main thing I count on unless I've got a good volume of fire (at least 20 to 30 shots and up)

Once lasguns were dissed by a poster,
who was countered, in turn, by the moster,
"don't give me, oh noetry,
I'm just using bad poetry,"
Was the man's reply to all his roasters.

Now THAT's how you do poetry on a guard forum.

Guardsmen do seem like they would like limericks more than, say, haiku.

Here is my take on it: IG are good at shooting and dying, but in a good context.

The thing is they are all priced very cheap. Some would say to cheap, but I do not know about that.

The IG will have tons of shooting, and tons of targets. Your oponent will not. Start blasting away, focus on the moast dangerush target until it is neutreliced (killed or othervice.) The thing is that it is hard to shoot back because all the oponent kills kill are crap units. it will take it's tall after a while, but if you have your egs spread out evenly in neat baskets he will runn out of steam before you.

Also, the IC codex veterans are to good for theyr price, and the chimera should never have aloved to shoot out of it with 5 special weapons. Grab some of those. If your oponent aproached then push something forward to die, but make shure it is your choise.
