No, Khador's northern Cygnar
Any way: after I get the battle box and atgm+ua for Christmas, I'm planning on getting ol' rowdy and a cyclone.

Bah, they're both just provinces that shall in time kneel to the Creator. Bow before Menoth's Gaze!

As to the OP, you don't need to get the faction book, but it is a good tool to have. You get fluff and you have the rules for all the models(that were released when the book came out) so you can proxy things you are interested in. Plus it lets you see what the options are.

Well, as I said, I've got it now so... thanks anyway
Any advice on beating menoth (the 2p box + choir + some solo) and Khador (2p box + bad santa + war dog + some 2 point solo) in 25 point games

Kreoss has Purification as one of his spells, so he can basically wipe all spells from his control radius. Just remember that it removes friendly and enemy spells.

Menoth relies alot on buffing its Jacks. If you can neuter the Choir early on, do it.

What Solo is he running?

Its probably either going to be a Vassal or a Paladin.

Vassals buff warjacks by either giving them a bonus attack(non-boosted) with any weapon OR they put Enliven on a Warjack. Which lets the Warjack make an advance if it takes damage. Don't shoot an Enlivened Jack unless you think you can wreck it, because otherwise it gets a free movement.

Paladins are straightforward combat solos that are REALLY tough to kill. They can forfit movement or action to gain +5 armor, which puts them at armor 21. Plus they are P+S14 weapon masters so they can damage just about anything.

It's so cute. You mainlanders fighting over land.

And dying.

Lots of dying.

Sucks about that population decline from all that death, hunh? Thanks for the materials, though...

Beating Cryx is about watching the angles. Arcnodes should be targetted first and hard if your opponant is running most casters. A Cryx player running even a beat stick caster will still bring an arcnode, like as not. There are plenty of incorporeal models or ones capable of getting Ghostly, allowing them to pass through terrain and obstructions at no penalty. Sure they may not be able to charge you without LOS, but they can still mosey on up and cut you.

The second thing you need to do is work on your target priority. What is going to kill you first and fastest? What is going to kill the parts of your army that you need in order to survive? The enemy will either take apart your army one important piece at a time and dismantle your plans, or will flood you with cheap, disposable, or even regenerating troops untill you drown.

My Cryx lists are about filling up on cheap and plentiful or horrifyingly effective units/solos and forcing my opponants to choose which one to kill first, then making them regret their decision. If there are enough pieces still on the field, I can kill you with any of them. I made it a point to play with the same list for a year and kill each opponant with a different componant of my army than the last, from a Caster charge, a bane thrall daisy chain, arc noded spells, pistol wraith shots, and even the humble Mechanithrall.

Most other armies need to combo up. Cryx's only synergy is "killing you." When it does combo up? Be afraid.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Either gun mages and UA or wait until the plastic stormblades release. Guard aren't bad but they sre not the same kind of all-stars gun mages and stormblades are.

Facing Cryx? Now why would i help you defeat me?

Well all right...... Against Cryx your options are limited but lets start with profiling them shall we?

Cryx are fast-Theres no need to worry about going to them they'll be coming to you. Very quickly
Cryx are primarily a melee force-thats not to say that they dont have powerful ranged weapons as they do-its just that there are very few ranged units in there force.
Cryx are tricksy-dont rely on them to play ball-They can shut enemy plans down in a heartbeat so you have to stay alert and flexible
Cryx are hard to hit but easy to damage-They rely upon there speed and agility to protect them rather than thnick armour. Hitting them is hard but if you hit you most likely will do considerable damage-But be warned there are exceptions to this.
Beware the Biles-If you see a unit anything that looks like swollen man size corpse's heading towards you DONT let them reach you. Crap shots they may be but let them get within 6" and they can sacrifice themselves to inflict an automatic pow 14 hit on anything within 6" of there forward arc.
Beware the Reaper-this Helljack dosnt have to run all the way to you-its harpoon can drags any jack it hits to it allowing it to bring its huge piston ram to bear-with a range of 8" this is a particulaly nasty surprise especially if theres an uinactivated unit of Banes or a Slayer, Seether or a couple of Ripjaws nearby.
Arcnodes-the Cryx have more arcnodes than any other faction. Each of our 4 basic Bonejacks(Lightjack equivalents) mounts an arcnode on it. These can result in really nasty surprises for unwary opponents.
Also look out for Stalkers-these vicous Bonejacks have stealth and arcane assasin making them perfect caster killers. They are possibley the lightest jacks in the game but should they reach there targets(and with stealth thats an extremely high possibility) there is a good chance your caster could be crippled or even killed.

Against cryx i would advise playing defensively-Try holding your range and shooting them, forcing them to cross a fragstorm to reach you. Dont be afraid to sacrifice a solo or Lightjack in order to buy another turns worth of shooting. Aim for the arcnodes and dont let them get close. Once you have eliminated the arcnode on a Bonejack unless you think its weapon could be a thorn in your side move on to the next arcnode. Remember aswell a single hit in melee from a heavy can cripple a Bonejack easily, and sometimes even kill it. Try softening up the heavys at a range-once youve removed one open fist Seethers and Slayers can nolonger power attack and removing 2 leaves them almost usless. Have some heavy melee units ready to come to the fore and take the charge.
