Sounds like it's time to go kill another one then. Not like they're ever out of season any more.

I wish Coyotes produced bacon, we don't have wild hogs up here and 'Yotes are the only year round pest.

Still don't hunt'em in spring though. I'd hate to kill a mother with dependent pups.

I'd love to. Next spring I may take a trip down south for another one or two. They're not that rampant here in Illinois. I shot the one pictured in Michigan. I also spent 3 days salmon fishing on Lake Michigan that trip, brought home 4 Steel Head and 18 Kings along with that pig. Just finished the fish up unfortunately.

I wonder if baby pig bacon would taste as good as regular pig bacon??

This situation doesn't bother me all that much, since my wife will basically burn the house down attempting to cook bacon.. Plus, due to "health" concerns my bacon generally has to be "beef bacon" :(

Younger female pigs are generally considered the best eating. Males need to be castrated for the meat to be any good, otherwise the testosterone just makes em bad. A lot say that older females isn't all that good either, but that hog I shot this year was definitely well into life and she tastes just fine.

There is a Feral Hog problem everywhere in the US. They are breeding like rabbits.

More people need to go Hog hunting. Its a good source of meat and it helps keep these pests down.

Lies, I WISH we had a feral hog problem here in Colorado. I'd be out taking pigs every weekend, feasting on ham, pork chops and bacon.

Ok, not everywhere. But at the rate the Hogs are spreading it won't be long.

Unlikely, the main limitation on feral hog populations spread northerly is the lack of mild winters.

Feral Hogs are a big issue in Texas.

Come kill some and take them home.

Pigs have greater issues with the Heat then the Cold.

In any case, the colder winters will just slow them down.

States being proactive in combatting them will greatly slow their spread down as well. Michigan declared war on feral hogs long before it became an issue. Any pig cited is allowed to be shot as long as you possess a CCL or any form of hunting liscence, and ranches (both hunting and domestic) were required to destroy all stock of certain breeds.

So far it seems to have been pretty effective, from what I understand sitings and kills have gone way down.

True about the heat thing, but that can be relatively rectified by shade, lack of movement, or wading in water/mud. A winter on the other hand where average temperature drops to below -5C will kill them then and there. unless they've developed some rather thick fur, which what I know about feral boars is not heavy enough to withstand freezing temperatures. It's a lot easier to cool down than it is to heat up.
