Yeah I played around with the Terminator assault cannon because I thought this one was a bit big as well. Unfortunately the termie AC looked like a tiny pea shooter when mounted so I went with the larger one to really represent strength 6 to be one of the strongest weapons.

I didn't like it at first but its kind of grown on me. I think the picture makes it look bigger than it really is anyway.

I really enjoy the dynamic you have here, of Imperial Guardsmen facing off against Cultists in a desperate fight for resources on a dead world. I like what you've done for the Cultist side of things; the character really comes out on those models when it such a small unit size. The only thing I can't say I agree with is the lack of other races. I read what you want to do with Tau and Dark Eldar, but I think some really fun ideas can be spun with a little bit of playtesting. I could see some interesting scenarios coming out of this.

For example, a Guard force vs. tyranids could be something like your Cadian platoon Vs. an army led by a Tervigon. The tervigon would be limited to a 1D6 when it spawns termagaunts, along with changing its statline a bit. (Im thinking primarily a W value of 4 instead of the usual 6.) Along with at least one unit of termagaunts, and maybe a small unit of Genestealers, would make a very fun game, in my opinion.

Orks could work well in this environment without too many changes. A Nob or a Mek (like the ones listed in the Burna Boy and Loota profiles) as a leader, some Ork boyz (some with shootaz, some with choppaz), a Killa kan as heavy support backup, and maybe some options for either Burna boyz or Lootaz (small units) for some crazy fun.

Space marines would be the smallest army in the game. The reason they'd be fighting against other Imperial units has already been adressed in you're background - They're there for their own secret agenda and will do whatever it takes to keep it secret - The force would mainly consist of regular Marines. Perhaps a minor leader unit. I think a squad of Space Marines facing off against an entire platoon of Guardsmen would be pretty even.

Chaos space marines would be more flexible than other armies. Leader units would be Aspiring champions (basically sergeants) with a mix of Marines (Cult marines if he has the right Mark for them) and cultists. An army of Chaos could be anything from a dedicated deathgaurd force of around 10 marines led by an aspiring champion of nurgle, or could be a Tzeentchian Aspiring Sorceror (from the Thousand Sons profile) leading a force of Cultists trying to scavenge from a library for arkane knowledge.

But these are just ideas I thought you could have some fun with, I am no expert on these things.

EDIT: On the topic of the Assault cannon; maybe replacing it with an Ork Heavy Shoota from the new Killa Kanz set would help? Im not sure how easily you can attain seperate bitz, but it would look good and very rough and tumble.

Perhaps use Genestealers as Hq units and give them haunts as their main troops. Just a thought I had while looking over and admiring your amazing paint skills.

It's actually taken me a great deal of self control not to start armies for other races. I want to make some kind of pathfinder vanguard infiltration force real bad. A bunch of pathfinders and maybe a pirhana. Same thing with Orks. All of the different interchangeable bits would make a great opportunity for a really unique bunch of orks. However, if I let my hobby ADD take me down this path then I will inevitably wind up with 5 unfinished armies So I'm afraid I'm going to have to keep the promise I made to myself and finish the two armies and the board before I branch out. This does set up a great opportunity for Minihammer 2.0 however.

Catachan vs. Tau in the jungle? Maybe vs. Kroot with some savage Orks in the middle? I still have some Elysians that need to find a place to fight too. They were going to be allied to the Cadians but they are a slightly smaller scale which really agitates my "everything has to be the same" complex.

I've been working on some terrain recently. Looking forward to getting some board quarters finished but I can't get around to getting any dirt because it rains every 3 days. This climate change is really getting in the way of my nerdiness

Thank you all for looking! I really enjoy the army ideas and the comments.

@Brotheralexos..yeah i found a big shoota from the bomba that looks like it would work well. I'll order it on my next bitz splurge.

Completely understood. I think that Tau & Kroot vs. Orks & Catachans in the jungle would work rather well. The more "Urban" areas of the planet would be fought over by the Catachans and Tau, while the Kroot and the Orks have a good ol' Head thumpin' contest in the jungle.

Either way, I absolutely love the ideas given here, and Ill probably be lootin' them for my collection. (I currently have small forces of Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, and Orks that have been lounging around not doing anything for the last decade.) Would you mind?

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

Please do! I would love to see how it works for other people and could use some inspiration to keep this ball rolling.

Holy Shnutz gluing down that sand was a lot of work.

Here are some pics of the first 3x2 board section almost done. All thats left is to add some details and top it with a another coat of watered down PVA before it gets some paint. I think there are enough skulls already so I'm just going to add some piles of trash here and there. I would have been done awhile ago but I recently discovered that netflix has all 7 seasons of Trailer Park Boys.

I'm ready to get some paint on this!

EDIT: looking at these pictures makes me see all the things that still need work! That pink foam freaking peeks out everywhere.

Also I wanted to note that the white stuff is talcom powder that I am using for the really ground down dust.

The terrain is coming together nicely. I'm really diggin' the little details. Good mix of bits and scratch builds. Will you be adding tufts of grass after you've painted or will the ground be more rocky than grassy?

Thank You Thank You.

Im going for a rather bleak look so I'm going to leave out any vegetation. I have two tubs of grass that I was using for another project but it looks like they are going to be used in Mini Hammer 2.0. The sand will be undercoated black and drybrushed several different shades of dark grey and brown. The bridge and the stepping stones are going to cross a small pond of green/blue water that will be topped with resin for water effects. Can't wait to start painting tomorrow!

In the mean time (while I nit pick all these damn details) I thought I would share my Dark Eldar that have never been photographed. Hey dakka is all about pictures right?

The Dark Eldar are cool, are they going to come into your Minihammer at some point?

Space Marines are fairly standard, though I lvoe the 'guys hanging out of the sides of the aircraft with the lascannons. It's very cool!
