His twitter is fairly entertaining. Apparently his yearly hobby budget is ~$300, as he says he blew it all on 2 Dark Vengeance Boxes and 3 Raptor sets. Probably for a Night Lords army knowing him.

The Horus Heresy books are fantastic. The first book Horus Rising is epic! The Time of Legend Books are also very good, Especially the legend of Sigmar series

Well ... keep in mind opinions are extremely subjective. Just look at how many people either love or hate the Ciaphas Cain novels.

Well, 5:2 so far, in this one thread - I'm sorry, I should have clarified that I'm with BlaxicanX on that one.
I think it's one of those books you'll either love or hate, all depending on what you expect of a 40k novel and what perception you have of the setting itself.

I'm sure there are a number of people who like Goto's books, too.

This has been mentioned before, but the Night Lords books tend to be the best, especially those by Dembski-Boden.
