Had a great time, but got lucky in matchups and definitely should not have won my second game. First time trying out Griffons and being able to snipe with accurate bombardments is a really useful tool, especially for the points cost. I even got a couple of pins out of them.

Quick recaps...

Chimera CCS w/ Plasma and Astropath
6x Chimera Vets (3x Plasma, 3x Melta)
3x Vendetta w/ Bolters
2x Griffons

First game vs. BrotherErekose playing mech DEldar.
- Terrible terrible matchup for him. Chimera multilasers are death to any of his skimmers, which doesn't even take into account all the primary firepower in the list. Nevertheless, Casey is a great guy to play against, as any of the GE regulars will attest to and he sticks it out to the end.

Second game vs. Voodoo playing Grey Knights
- Game of hilarious dice (not for me) as I get a Vendetta shot down by a snap-firing monkey and Chimeras just blow up left and right. In fact, all 3 Vendettas fail to kill a Psyfleman out of cover, then Scott shoots all 3 of them down in the same turn, with one crashing directly into a Guardsmen squad. In the end, a couple of ragged squads (the only survivors) manage to claim/contest the objectives, staggering through the field of burning Chimeras to plant the flag.

Third game vs. tufflove playing Grey Knights
- I split deploy, keeping the majority of my force off board and hunker down in my corner, waiting for him. I get shot up for a bit, but on my second turn, the Astropath brings in my reserves on the opposite corner and the resulting alpha strike cripples his army. With Chimeras Vets on both corners of the board and his army trapped in the center with Vendettas circling overhead, Andy's got nowhere to go.

After writing this, I realize that I played 3 Dakka posters and all guys that I know.

Phazael: I am amazed that you actually played foot Guard. I've done it before and having to use a notepad to keep track of which guy is in which squad was just too much for me. I'm sure your list would have done well against me as your Vendettas would be priority targeting the Griffons. Good job on Best General!

Griffons would have had likely two turns to hammer me and you had air superiority. You are also not likely to make a mistake to give me an opening. Firing the Griffs indirect takes away the cover from the ADL, so if we played on a thin cover table (which I did twice) I would have been gone in about three turns. My original idea had a manticore, which would have helped, but I went with the Penal Legions instead for fun, which actually was very entertaining.

My list:
HQ
Commisar Lord w Fist and Meltabombs

Troops
2x max sized Blobs with max axes Flamers and Las Cannons, each with a vox and one having a standard Commisar
2x Platoon Commands with Voxes, one with a Missile Launcher
Each Blob had a Special Weapon Squad w 2 Demos and a Grenade Launcher
2x Penal Legion units

Fast
2x Vendetas

Fortification
ADL w Quad Gun

Basically all my infantry manned the ADL and the one without a weapons team manned the quad gun. Special Weapons teams rode in the Vendettas, to act as suicide squads and snake isolated objectives. Penal Legions were also there for outflanking harrassment.

Game One- Played the Tau guy whos' name escapes me. He had some of the right tools, but too many suits and not enough diversionary markerlights. A bad panic roll on turn one (he ran the lower LD guy) sent his warlord and a crisis team off the table on turn one. That debacle aside, the game was still relatively close, thanks to the number of easy KP my list offers, and I netted no bonus, which made me the lowest seeded winner from round one.

Game Two- Played Casey, who was running a witch rush DE list. Unfortunately, I siezed on him and crippled his main tool against the blobs early (the venoms). His witches all died horribly without ever reaching combat and even the penal legion guys saw play here. Not much he could do in this matchup, to be honest, as even if he had reached the blob units he would have gone down to raw attrition.

Game Three- Jakes Nurgle w Epidemus 3+ FNP trick with all infantry on the table. Basically, I assasinated Epidemus with the Penal Legion guys, thanks to him being bunkered in Swarms and being able to bowl against T3 with flashlights. Typhus killed almost an entire blob before going down to a combination of power axes and a perils. Hard fought game that I narrowly won by focusing on the bonus victory conditions. That gets hot psychic power is hilarious when used on a blob with First Rank Second Rank, btw. I think Jake lost this game mainly because he changed his mind about what to do with Typhus mid game. If he had either just gone straight at the blob or borke Typhus off to get rid of the penal squad, he would have denied me at least VP and secured the tie at the bare minimum. I was also very luck to deny the witch twice that game.

@SPM-
I am pretty good about book keeping in that situation if I have a deployment tray. I keep the casualties piled by units and I am good enough with math to crunch the numbers in my head quickly. Its definately a lot of work, though. Much harder than playing Green Tide, because the shooting phases can get so long. The game with Jake took the longest because of how crazy the shooting was, and his army was crazy resiliant. That and I actually had to start moving the blobs around. In practice, there are only 8 actual units at any given point in time, of which only half are generally moving around, so its not as bad as it looked. I short hand a lot of it to keep the game moving, since slow play is a major pet peeve of mine and I do not want to be a hypocrite.

Pasadena

It was great to have a nice turn out, 14 total! Would have been 16 but 2 confirmed attendees bailed morning of...

I had a great day. I lost by 3 KPs round 1 to VooDoo (Scott) when he was able to down 4 of my 5 Cron Air croissants.

I won my second game against the Tau and my final game against Space Wolves.

It had been 2 months since I had played a game with Cron Air and I forgot the number 1 rule against a good AA army like Scotts. Be aggressive and take out the AA first turn you can. Instead I tried to be sneaky and play the KP denial game. I failed. Great event, great armies, and I hope to see everyone again next month and in February.

Stay tuned to this forum, there should be an announcement this week about the 2013 Tournament format at GE: Pasadena which is going to be a big change, in a good way to what we've run in the past.
