Cross-Dressers of Battle?

Also interested in this because I've been wanting to make a Traitor Guard army to use with my CSM. What I'm just going to do is prowl Ebay until I can find a really good deal and get them for cheap. I'm using a bunch of Greenstuff anyway, so damaged or broken models aren't that big of a deal (sometimes they even look better), because I honestly can't see myself spending $40 to $50 in addition to every squad I buy.

If your really like Guard, 6e has given you a great route to slowly build them up. Use them as Allies to your Wolves. That way you can start with an HQ, and nice guard squad with maybe a heavy support. I think the Battleforce will let you put a nice ally force together.

I would keep all vehicles official 40k ones simply because they're odd sizes (leman russes especially) but infantry are infantry and most people should have no problems with them. heck, you could even use historical infantry to make armies like the valhallans (WWII soviets) and bretonnians (19th century british)

Well, it's possible to take model kits for tanks (there are quite a few people who use a KV1 or 2 as Leman Russ) but you have to keep in mind that GW tanks are in a 1/48th scale and that it will take some effort in converting to make them look like 40k tanks. It can save a lot of money though depending on the type of model kit. Regardless, it is possible to make a budget guard army but it will take a fair bit of work any way.

And as the others have said, it is an army for life, there will always be new regiments/units that you want to add. Guess it is a testament to the various playing styles the army is capable of.
