Peregrine, there are a lot of "ifs" that your argument automatically assumes. For one, you assume that only a single model will ever be able to charge. For two, while vets in a chimera are more expensive and prone to over heat deaths you assume that they automatically preserve all their fire power at the same time you assume the cheaper unit loses 8 to 9 members. You do I hope see how that is a completely illogical argument?

No, because the veterans have this thing called a transport, which protects them from dying before they get to fire. Rough riders have no protection at all and die quickly, so it's unreasonable to assume that they survive 1-2 (or more) turns of shooting without taking substantial losses.

If rough riders are short enough to hide behind a vehicle, how does that change your impression of them?

It doesn't, because the unit's footprint is still huge and you're going to have a hard time hiding the entire unit. And anything you don't hide is dead.

They don't. The best you can hope for is that they die and draw fire from something more important, but given the high price per model even using them as meatshields isn't a viable strategy.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Hawaiimatt any chance we could get a height measurement of the rough riders? That would help out a bit to determine what distance on a flat table a chimera hides them, as without a way to easily block Los I concede they are too much a fire magnet.

they are very squishy so take 3 units fully kitted and advance them behind a chimera wall yes they can still be shot but will have a decent cover save if you position them correctly. if you 4+ vets squads in chimeras then the enemy has to choose target priorty does he take the RR or the chimeras ? once your within say 15inch split the chimeras and charge the RR through

Rough Riders aren't that super-bad. I mean, as a unit. As a Fast Attack selection, they are rubbish. They should be Elites (or Troops!) to be worth taking.
