Oh you don't have to actually announce whether your target is 13 or 14 either? Good to know
I see your point concerning survivability now, yeah.
The palbots are the same model regardless of whether it's a doc or an engineer using them, right?

The models are a little bit different. But they are both palbots, so stick them to whomever you want.
You don't need to say what WIP your Lt is, but if you roll for example 14, you get a critical success on Rao, while the Bagh-Mari would have failed.

Okay, thanks. I take it it's just a matter of different arms with the palbots? (as in, there's just one blister of em).
So basically as long as I don't roll 14 for init my opponent has no way of knowing; if I roll 14 and Rao's the lt. I might be in a slight bit of a pickle (though he's still absurdly durable in that link). Okay, sounds like something I can deal with

kaapelikala wrote:The lt isn't totally obvious. If you roll 13 or less in Initiative, the lt is either Rao, HMG Bagh-Mari, rifle Bagh-Mari, or the rifle Regular.
If you fail with 14, then it's not Rao.
Remember that the Lt is in a linked team. He has a HMG, mimetism, BS15, SSL2, MSV1 and +1 Burst. It's going to take a lot of trying to kill him. Position the link well and nothing is going to get to it. Be especially careful of templates, such as shotguns, flamers or grenades. Mimetism doesn't help against them.
The dronespam is also missing engineers, so it's going to need some skills to win with it. Or guided missiles.
Seems like I have been talking without better knowledge. You need to tell the lts WIP on Deployment & Initiative roll. If you take Rao, it's going to be 14. If you take a regular or Bagh-Mari, it's 13.

Actually, it's been recently stated that you do not need to say the lieutenant's WIP. Unless it's relevant ( for example : your opponent rolls a 13 but you crit with a 12 )

infinity wiki has this:
- Can Lieutenants WIP be hidden by any means during deployment Face to Face roll?
No, the full WIP of the Lieutenant must be disclosed at the Face to Face roll.
Seems Kaapelika's last post jives with that? What am I missing?

Open and Private Information
Part of the composition of your Army List can be considered Private Information, and need not be shared with your opponent until the appropriate time during play. You must write down all Private Information so that you can show it to your opponent later or to the Referee upon request.
As a general rule, everything on your Army List is considered as Open Information (and must be disclosed with your opponent at the beginning of the game and whenever asked). However, you can keep as Private certain pieces of information:
» Lieutenant identity,
» Hidden Deployment,
» Airborne Deployment,
» Holoprojector,
» Contents of Camouflage Markers,
» Contents of Impersonation Markers.
1: Initiative roll
A Face to Face Roll is made, using each Lieutenant’s WIP. Players
are not forced to reveal the WIP of their Lieutenant so as not
to betray their identity (which is Private Information). Players
need only disclose the result of their roll and whether or not
it was successful. Players must also inform their opponents
whether their Lieutenant has the Strategos Special Skill, and
at what level.
And stated by Palanka on the official forums :
Points Cost and SWC are not part of your Army List

Recent changes to the ITS rules, which overturn that statement.
They haven't been added to the wiki yet.

...Ah, right. So I take it those 'rules for organized play' are understood to apply to every pick-up game, unless otherwise specified?
Thanks

It seems so at least if the Infinity forum is to be believed. This also means that Mercenaries are totally no-no, you can't use non-infinity miniatures and so on. Then again you can play the game with sticks and pennies in your garage.

Right.. to be honest it probably won't matter for 99% of your games. When I play games with my mate we don't tell each other the WIP and were hiding parts of our army list simply because it seemed a more fun way to do things, and were doing so before that PDF came out.
If you happen to go to a tournament then it should be pretty simple to find out what the specific rules are for such things in any case.

Ah right, the no non-infinity minis req. Yes, that'll trip me up on tournaments for sure, so I wasn't planning on those in the short run in any case. Okay, seems I'm set to go for a while now

Unfortunately, many players also apply ITS restrictions to every day 'pick-up' games as well - not unlike other tournament players who will ALWAYS play with ETC restrictions and rules for casual play. Mercenaries are fine for casual play - even if certain elements DO see them as "broken" or overpowered. Not everyone plays to min-max or even thinks to do so.
Whilst the ITS rules don't permit "non CB minis" for tournament play, they also don't send a stormtrooper to ensure you comply with this rule. You are also not supposed to proxy one model with another if the unit has an official model. It's still up to the TO in the end.
