Civ5 is awesome. But you really need to get Gods & Kings for it, too. The game would almost feel incomplete without it.

How strategic do you want your game to be?
If you want a game where there's some strategy involved before you play, play Age of Empires, Starcraft or something similar.
For a game where strategy is involved before and during the game play a Total War game or Hegemony Gold.
For a complex game which relies heavily on the actions of the computer or another player, play a Paradox strategy game such as Crusader Kings II or Europa Universalis 3. These are my favourite games. It requires a lot of thought during the game as you react to the moves of the other players.

Also has anyone ever played Submarine titans?..its supposed to be like Starcraft 1 but underwater.
Heroes 3 is the game that made the franchise, and is widely regarded as the best of the series by a LONG margin (by myself included)
Heroes 4, 5, and 6 are all good games, but are made by different companies to the original 3 and so are totally different. I like 4 but its not the same (your heroes fight on the battlefield with spells/abilities and attacks for example, whereas in 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 they are just the figurehead for your army (having helpful abilities and casting spells as well as the occasional attack).
They are all well worth getting IMO.
6 is on Steam, and you have just missed getting all the others (wuth expansions) on the GOG sale....look on Amazon for the Heroes complete set (includes 1-4 with ALL of the expansions....its a great set and i picked it up for about £7) Automatically Appended Next Post: Lynata wrote:Revenent Reiko wrote:I have Civ 5....assuming that wasnt aimed at me?

Agreed, got the expansions too (free with my advance order of XCOM, so got 2 great games together! )

There is a Fallout collection availible that I got recently.
It's great.
You get the original Fallout, a good RPG.
Fallout 2, which adds alot.
And Fallout Tactics, which is kinda a cool blend rpg and strategy. You control a team with the Fallout engine, you create your "Leader" like our Fallout MC, but you have to use strategy to trap and out think the enemy.

Hum, what upgrades were those? I don't recall anything that was actually a must-have as there always seemed to be more than one way to pull stuff off.
The only thing you were really forced into were the boss fights - which many fans complained about, for that went against the statement that you could choose to avoid all fights if you wanted to.
Spoilered just in case:
Hah, that place was tedious. I ended up going in guns blazing after getting tired of sneaking (my play style anyway) and I did it for the next 3 play throughs as well. I started making that my go to "strategy."

Yeah so far i have really liked the Neverwinter Nights series, however i hated Baldur's Gate 2 with a passion since i kept dying right at the start all the time. Not sure if many people around here has either played it or even liked it but Arcanum: Of Steam works and Magick is a fun but old game.

Well I know as a Wizard I kept dying at the start of Baldur's Gate 1.
But I kind of expected that. You know, since Wizard.

BG2 is RPG royalty. The story is excellent and play time can be in the 100 of hours. Its really dated but offers way more than most RPGs in the history of video games. If you give it another shot and maybe look up some play tips i know most will love it. The so far I havent been able to kill Drizzt or the final level of that towerthat you clear from the top down.

As far as series go, I prefer NWN over BG, myself. Then again, NWN had a more active modding scene.

I was for a bit... but I kind of stopped paying attention to most MMOs after the DMO failure and Guild Wars 2's launch. I just don't particularly care that much about MMOs unless they have something truly unique to offer these days, and so few of them do.

Agreed, completely! spoilers: You arent meant to kill Drizzy (unless you want to of course) you are meant to recruit him, he is stupidly powerful in BG2...or so i remember....

I dislike Drizzt. He is concentrated kitsch of RPG.
As for NWN. The first one dragged me in, but the second was just boring. The beginning could be better: Dwarf raised by Elf? Well...
I don't think anyone mentioned Vampire: Bloodlines. Apart from bugs it's an awesome game.

It was better than BG1 in my experience. The only problem was that it felt a little too linear for my tastes.

Drizzt is a complete mary sue... and I only played Dark Alliance 2 because the Baldurs gate style games bore me to tears.
My fav RPG's are probably... Summoner, Fallout 1/2, Dark Souls, Arcanum aaand... can't really think of anything else right now.
As for strategy... Westwood C&C/dune games, Starcraft, EU3, CK2, KKND 1/2, Total Annihilation(and kingdoms too).

I never saw the charm in WoW,so to me personally it looks abit overrated and feels boring but that's just me though so for those who like it that's just my opinion so this don't turn in to a WoW is super cool/Super bad argument.
Also Lionheart : Legacy of the Crusader was to me a fun and some what different rpg game that not many people might like. There is of course also Star Wars Galatic battle grounds, a game that i think some of us around here has played before and well it might look and feel like Age of Empires 2 it still has some what of a nice touch to it.
I used to play Guild wars 1 and i'm now thinking of going into Guild wars 2. For those of you guys who have played it, i was wondering how much different it is from the first game besides new classes and races.
