It probably depends on who you ask. If I recall correctly (WH Designer Notes maybe?), the Ordo Hereticus was said to be the most feared, simply because it is the one entrusted with dealing with the Enemy Within and their agents tend to have a "sinister" aura.

I mean, compare Xenos or Malleus Inquisitors in their shining knightly power armour with a Witch Hunter in his dark cloak and large brimmed hat expunging heresy amidst the populace. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule but that seems to be the default image.

The irony is, of course, that the other Inquisitors are just as capable of doing stuff we'd consider to be evil - but fewer people would expect it of them, making the mistake to judge the book by its cover, so to say.

The average Malleus Inquisitor (In my mind anyway) is a hulking melon-fether in power armour with a thunder hammer striding across a war-torn battlefield to fight some of the most horrible foes in the galaxy. I don't consider their power armour "shining knightly" myself. What you'd find more fearsome is largely a matter of preference.

I'd call such a sight "inspiring", actually. Especially if it's a silver armour with lots of sigils, purity seals and Aquilas on it. Surely, the Emperor Himself walks with such an impressive warrior!

The average guy doesn't get to see the battles he fights in ... and if he would, he'd prolly get quarantined and/or mindscrubbed afterwards. Or recruited into his retinue.

I've never read a story with an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor in Power Armour and thought he was a shining hero of light, lol.

They come off more as hulking, violent brutes.

With the exception of Hector Rex, almost ironically, since he actually is physically modified to be bigger and stronger than most Space Marines even (At eight feet tall).

IIRC Hector Rex is actually a failed aspirant to a Marine Chapter. He has many of the modifications, he just failed one of the later processes and was lucky enough for it to not have been fatal. So he joined the Inquisition somehow instead of becoming a Serf.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Less so with the Ordo Xenos but they are the smallest of the 3 major ordos anyway.

Ironic, considering xenos are the most numerous and widespread of Mankind's enemies.

Well, xenos is something IG, IN, vanilla SMs and basically anything Imperial were created to fight, and xenos other than Eldars/Genestealers are not masters of infiltration and subtergfug - danger from Necron, Tyranids and Orks is countered in field of battle and not due to internal vigilance...
Thus small Ordo Xenos makes sense ( esp. considering that local officials conspiring with xenos are also somehow fall under Hereticus jurisdiction).
So basically, maybe Xenos not really smallest, but no doubt least influential of three Ordos.

Without passion we'd be truly dead.
