Technically, they could have just about any and every Pre-Heresy tech you want them to. Though, it was also a very good point to mention that they did suffer catastrophic losses on Rynn's World, and it's very likely that a large amount of their Heresy era tech was lost with it. However, that's shouldn't deter you from adding whatever ridiculously expensive Forge World toys you want unless you're trying to build the entire Crimson Fists chapter, and want it to be reasonably fluff compatible.
And I've never seen any suggestion that the Crimson Fists wouldn't have had drawn their fair share of the Imperial Fist Legion's armory. After all, they still had to function as an independent chapter, and the Imperial Fists were limited to what gear their chapter could use. Plus, it wasn't Heresy Era tech back then, it was just "tech", lol. It wasn't rare like it is now.

As the new multiplied-by-ten legions sizes seem to be preferred take of the canon these days, it means the legions were huge. There was a lot to gear to divide among the chapters. However I'm not certain how common Contemptors were even in 30K. Were they rare even then?
BTW, are any Imperial Fists second founding chapters named besides Crimson Fists and Black Templars? With the larger legion sizes there must have been more.

I believe that the black templars and crimson fist are the second foundings of them.
I have modelled now some of my marines with deathwatch. Alot of the fists have been in the deathwatch legion. They are very nice too.
Try get some pictures up one day on my blog.

As a long time crimson fist player, there are a few things I've picked up. 1. the book Rynn's World doesn't entirely match up with the figures generally given when addressing how many marines actually survived. As of the time period immediately following the incident, the Chapter could field 4 reduced companies. now, keep in mind, first company is always maintained at 128 in this chapter (Crusade company). The crimson fists were actually killed off to 128 members some time in their distant past if i remember my fluff and first company is always maintained/ promotes marines to reflect this number. so, probably 250-380 or so marines survived. 2. The crimson fists were an incredibly well equipped space borne chapter prior to and since the rynns world invasion, so many of their relcs could have been onboard space ships in shrines and the like. 3. refer to the rogue trader cover. EVERYONE is a beakie. so, if you wanna be fluffy, beakie spam is the way to go. 4. There are 12 chapters descended form the original imperial fists legion, according to the marine codex's description of the Feast of Blades, although lexicanum claims more (Black Templars, Crimson Axes, Crimson Fists, Crusaders of Dorn, Emperor's Warbringers, Excoriators, Executioners, Fire Lords, Hammers of Dorn, Iron Champions, Iron Knights, Knights of Dorn, Night Swords, Sons of Dorn, Soul Drinkers, Subjugators, Venom Thorns). this means there is a huge amount of brother chapters with the same geneseed who would probably be willing/able to donate equipment to their struggling brethren.
so, if you want older marks of armor go for it. I'd probably stay with mk4 or later (using predominantly mk6 if you want to be old school), and avoid cataphractii armor all together. Automatically Appended Next Post: They also have consideralbe access to inquisitorial relics, being one of the main contributors to the deathwatch, so deathwatch shoulder pads, and a few black suit marines might be in order as well.
Automatically Appended Next Post: the captains for 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10th companies still exist, if that helps for painting your shoulder pad trims for color markings.

Ahh, the famous picture that drew so many of us older types towards -

It was noted in WD (circa 300, when they were running through all the cool cover art) that the cover of the 3rd edition vanilla dex was an 'update' of the old picture. IE: Retcon with more typical modern armour.

Is anyone really gonna call you out on having the wrong pattern of whatever for the Crimson Fists? If there is, then ignore them because they need to get a life and aren't worth listening to.
Given that the real meat of the Crimson Fists' backstory is of how a missile fell on them, you could always just say "this army here is them before that missile thing happened."
Then if they say "pre-Heresy X, eh?"
Say "they found it. Just sorta lying there where it was blown up. Their techmarines taped it back together and stuck some guy inside."
My Carcharodons have a contemptor and it's a really nice model. FW is nice. Don't look at the fluff under a microscope. If you want some pre-heresy stuff, buy it.

Thanks so much for your help.
and after all that help I decided to add this to my crimson fists:
This is not a crimson fist but its getting used in my army as one.
Seems the only way they will get a contemptor.
Peace
