Daemonic mounts deserve a look. They're t5 and net you two s5 attacks and a s5 stomp, and now you can take barding. So if you are ok with him being slow, you can do something like: Helm of Many Eyes, Talisman of Preservation, The Other Trickster's Shard. Mark of Tzeentch, Soulfeeder, Burning Body, Flaming Breath. (This optimizes for monster hunting... for a character-hunting build swap out burning body for Third Eye).
Then make sure you have a unit of TZ warriors with the blasted standard in the list.
In games with cannons, chaos lord can hunker in the unit of TZ warriors and bounce s5 cannons off his 3+/3++ all day long, and he should (being immune to thunderstomp), completely ruin anything from a bloodthirster through a ghoulking that comes within reach of his halberd. In other games, with all those near-auto-hitting s6 attacks and given the extreme unlikelyhood he'll take any wounds ever, he is perfectly viable as a solo combat monster, like a diet Daemon Prince. And of course, he might still become one.

Being on a mount, while he gets the blasted standard, doesn't he not get look out sir if in warriors?
What about festus in a unit of nurgle great weapon ogres? Bunch of S6 poisoned attacks and heavy armor regenerating brutes!
Slows them down, but might be worth it.
Anyone else noticed throgg now has a great weapon now? Strength 8!

Cannon becoming S5 still wounds an exalted hero on a 3, ignores his save, and does d6 wounds doesn't it?

Cannons don't ignore armor like Bolt Throwers do. They only have their Str10(which does reduce 1+ armor all the way)
So with the standard its only -2 to armor because of str5. still D6 wounds.

I'd just stick festus in MoN WoC with Shields or Halberds.

They get way fewer attacks, though, and are susceptible to stomp and spells like the great 13th.
If the great 13th is cast on a unit like ogres with an infantry model in it, does the spell not work or would just the character be killed?
