i used to play Magic but i stopped because you never stop blowing a LOT of money just to keep playing. Warhammer you spend a lot as well dont get me wrong, but at a certain point you start doing cooler conversions, occasional box you somehow lacked, or a new unit you want instead of buying an ENTIRE NEW ARMY (basically what happens in magic every what year if that?)
If i could actually play it with as much money as i put into normal games, i'd be fine. But you'd have to get REALLY lucky to be able to play if you pay that little because if you go against a badass card and you dont have one you lose, period and end of story.
Even though a lot of the conversions/kitbashes are using pre-made pieces, i still get that strong sensation youre talking about of "Yea, i built that" - i just finished builting/priming my Wazdakka model for instance and i cant paint it cuz i keep looking at it and going "Damn...thats cool" lol

My problem is also with the shooting face, too much dice to roll, too much counting to do, etc.
I use a dice roller app for my ipad/iphone called Gamer Dice when I have to roll over 20 dice. It can break down dice rolls into the number of 5's and 6's you rolled. I miss the visceral thrill of rolling dice, but its worth it to save the time.
I would never trust one of those programs! Machine spirits are fickle beings.

The key to strategy is not to choose a path to victory, but to choose so that all paths lead to a victory.
War is beautiful because it establishes man’s dominion over the subjugated machinery by means of gas masks, terrifying megaphones, flame throwers, and small tanks. War is beautiful because it initiates the dreamt-of metalization of the human body. War is beautiful because it enriches a flowering meadow with the fiery orchids of machine guns. War is beautiful because it combines the gunfire, the cannonades, the cease-fire, the scents, and the stench of putrefaction into a symphony.

Heh reminds me of my last game of risk, which I lost badly because after 4 rounds I figured out I was using one D3 die hahaha.
But ehm... if that's correct it's a bit messed up. Did GW ever react to this?
I use GW dice... damn haha.
So using an algorith would change things...hmm.
For me its really the shooting/charging & setting up that takes too long,
movement is hard handed

Woah...
I'm going to buy some clear plastic dice this weekend.
Screw chessex and screw GW for making crappy dice that don't roll evenly. Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit : I just tested my larger chessex dice with 1000 rolls and got 17.01754386% of ones. Perfectly within normal ranges.
I expect the beveled edges and hallow interiors are more of an issue for smaller dice.

Cool, I'm glad you thought so. I wasn't really posting that article to argue for getting rid of dice, I mean, I still use dice for smaller rolls (though not GW dice ). I was just trying to say don't give up on dice rolling programs because they may be less than random, because there are plenty of variables that can mess with dice too. Even those fancy casino dice may be biased on a tilted table, an oddly shaped box, ect.
Edit: Though now that I think about it, if that article is right, and it was pretty convincing, no one should use GW dice. Ever

I think the culprit are just small chessex/GW dice.
As I mentioned, I tried using normal sized dice and did not have any noticeable issues. The averages were right on par with where one would expect.

Despite being off topic, this should be known:
The Munitorum Dice that GW released when 6th was released are superb. I've been using them exclusively and they roll average.

Another factor of dice rolling is when you roll a metric crapton of them they bump into each other. Ive notice that i get either a LOT of 1-2s with more than 40 dice in my hand, or a LOT of 5-6s. They just dont roll cuz theres no space to.

Meh. I like video games, but I don't consider someone who is skilled at them to be an artist.
It's why card games aren't interesting to me.
We have the opportunity to make something truly cool. You don't see card players or Call of Duty bros that are so proud of what they have created, because they create nothing.
Not so.

Keeping track on paper or mobile device of how many Boyz there are in each squad speeds up calculating number of shots, and attacks. This saves a lot of time!
