They share the same order, but not the same family. By that logic, Humans are the same species as every other primate.

You've obviously never been to the the Cleveland Zoo, you can walk right up to apes and primates and compare yourself... Why a few months ago, I mistook my dad for a bald type or orangutan

okay... deftly avoiding THAT subject....

I'd put in that 100 points is when balancing really starts to come into play, the resources are more flexible at that level, you can really start taking secondary upgrades like siege weapons and banners/horns; but I would say that for full 'handle any situation', 200 resources is more ideal, you can get more than one full squad on the table, getting unit variety, etc.

The guy was an out of towner, I actually felt better about giving him some Malifaux stuff that way the Brushfire would stay local and I could sort of measure people playing it lol.

Oh sure, try and explain yourself.

On topic ish.

If you were playing with just the 25 resources that come in a starter set what size board would you use and what level of terrain?

3'x2' (Deploying on the short sides)

maybe 25~40% terrain? (low walls, crates, a small forest or two)

We run our demos (at least at GenCon) on the 2x2 sections of a Realm of Battle Board, I'd definitely go with Cy's suggestion of 3x2 and I'd suggest 1/3rd of the board have terrain, makes it a tad bit more fun

Yeah, but I do things at demo I wouldn't say are 'fair and balanced' for a proper warband match.

Mainly I make OTL Staff play Aquitar (we almost always go first then), and set terrain to be more favorable to the Civitas/Ribenguo player.

Is there some reason it has to be 3'x2'?

Oddly sized boards are one of those things that bother me. I've already got 2'x2' boards to run demos on, I've got 3'x3' boards to run Malifaux and Mercs on. I've got 4'x4' boards to run Warhmachine on. I've got 4'x6' for 40k and Fantasy and I've got 4'x8' for Apocolypse and other large scale stuff.

So my question again, is there any reason why it needs to be a 3'x2' board? Wouldn't a 3'x3' work just as well and be much more common?

3x3 could work, as could 2x4.

I was just giving the smallest square footage

At what resource levels would you bump up the size of the board?

50 should probably be a 3x3, 100~150 on a 4x4, and 200~400 on a 4x6 (short side deployment).

Playing on a 4x6 table and deploying on the short sides seems like it would be alot of walking...

Deployment is what, 10 inches? So you've cut 20 inches off the table, then on turn 1 most people will rush... taking the avg Speed of 4.5, so 19 inches on each side brings most of the models on both sides within firing position near the end parts of turn 1. Remember a model can Rush and fire in the same turn, they just lose the ability to add the relevant stat to their roll.

Using the table the long ways allows for greater maneuvering through and placement of terrain obstacles.

Rushing just doubles your speed, correct?

Even with a 25" range rifle a squad only has an effective first turn reach of 44" giving your opponant 28" of wiggle room.

Although I guess I'm not taking into account Heavy Cavalry...

Still though it seems like alot of walking.

Have I been reading this wrong the entire time? When you say deploying on the short sides, you're taking a 6 foot deep table... (i.e. opposite of regular 40k deployment)... Feth that is a lot of walking.

'Tactical Positioning Room'

 Catyrpelius wrote:

Most Cavarly is going to be 7~8 Speed. So 16" Rush, 5" Charge Range. Carbineers are going to be able to move 14" and then shoot 25".

 Catyrpelius wrote:

Brushfire's inspiration from LOTR encourages lots of walking.

Can't we just call in some Giant Eagles and get the whole thing done with?

Even with Heavy Cavalry with 8" movement that tactical postioning room is still 16".

Thinking about it more though if you deployed on the long side a model would have to deploy 8" off the board in order to not be shot at on the first turn.

I rather like the idea of that large distance. But as Cyp said, I imagine the terrain to be between 40k and infinity standards. Maybe something like cities of death kind of coverage but with a higher quantity of smaller terrain pieces. That way it's just one big struggle to get into position for the main attack while avoiding any fire corridors where ballista can tear you apart.
