I ally my DA with Guard, not because I think it's any good or stronger, but because it really appeals to me to have a few space marines being supported by masses of otherwise totally outclassed guardsmen.

If there was ever a way to fully integrate the two codices so I could have all my guardsmen squads led by a Space Marine, I'd jump at the chance.

I haven't come up against either, and I've still had my opponents throw guardsmen off the table by the fistfuls. They don't NEED those kinds of weapons.

You could have spent all those points on a 10-man deathwing squad led by Belial. 10 terminators are also pretty tough to kill, and they're also scoring, but they also show up wherever you want them with twin-linked weapons and chainfists.
