How about devs with 4 HBs in fortress redemption with emplaned heavy bolters. That's 8 BS4 heavy bolters, one with signum is BS5.

An ode to the heavy bolter: a themed 1,500 point C:SM list

MotF 100

10 man tac, HB/M c-metla, HB razor 225
Same as above 225
5 sniper scouts, cloaks, HB 100

3 attack bikes w/HBs 120
2 land speeders 2xHB each 120
Stormtallon (basic, with the HBs) 130

5 man dev, 4xHB, HB razor 190
TLLC/HB pred 130
Another TLLC/HB pred 130

Total is 1,470.

You have the melta in the tac squads and the main guns on the preds to crack open tanks. Once all the boxes have been opened, you hose the table down with HBs until nothing moves. The MotF can either ride with one of the tacs, or sit back and try to repair stuff. Fortifying a ruin is his main job. Could be swapped for another HQ to taste.

There are choices that are a little sub par in this list, but it covers all the major bases needed for casual play. I probably could have crammed more HBs in there, but wanted to mix things up a bit, and make it playable, rather then just an exercise in spam.

It's FW, but Chimeras with the autocannon turrets are awesome, especially with another autocannon inside.

I have always liked sticking HB's in IG infantry squads, then again I am pretty bad.

That comes out to 13 heavy bolters for 500 points, all of it mobile

I can't think of any other army that can get that many heavy bolters for so cheap!

This is actually pretty awesome if you want to theme heavy bolters. It's actually pretty serious against most armies, non MEQ are getting wounded on a 2+ for infantry with no saves or on a 5+ for MC's. Meanwhile, MEQ are eating a buttload of wounds from 1/3rd of the enemy force.

If you really love Str 5 and lots of shots, there's always Big Shootas, the weapon of choice for Orks. Twin linked goodness on Bikes and Deffkoptas.

PS I love the AC LC debate. Our high Str weapon is the Lootas' DeffGun at 7/4.
