I'm new to this & I will check out the battery holders that you mentioned ..... I run a Hobby shop during the day ..... ( Rabid modeler at night ) Yes I'm a GWS stockist ..... as to how this ends up ... only time will tell ..... but the little blobs on the end of the fiber is where I held a lighter ( BIC) and melted the end to keep the fiber from pulling through .... like I say this is a experiment .... and I may offer kits in the future for this converting process ..... I have heard tales that the enemy has requested that the eye's & lights be turned off because of distraction ...... Well I say alls fair in Love & War !!!!

Excellent stuff so far. Wiring up LEDs in infantry is painstaking work to say the least. I've ruined more than my fair share of mini parts while trying to get the holes drilled at the right angles and such. I've heard similar stories of opponents complaining about the lights, but like you said, all's fair in love and tiny toy soldiers I'm interested to see how much lighting you actually end up having on your models. Mine are going to be more or less excessive, with bare LEDs shining out of the chests like Iron Man, but you seem like you're just going for glowing eyes so far. I'll have to keep checking in on this.

I'm working my way through a similar project if you'd like to poke your head into my thread on Warseer. Would love to hear a bit of criticism from someone who knows a bit more than I do about this stuff.

I checked out your thread & I see you have discovered the firber Optic Stuff in the photos with the light, shining I was using a Flashlight/Torch .... this will be too bright for my tiny Terminator ....

This is my LED tester .... A LED onlt shines with the right polarity on the LED .... also notice the resistor inline on red lead

[Thumb - Razorback 12.JPG]
My LED on double stick tape I'll quickly solder some wire on it tonight

Actaully Swordsman I don't even have any fiber optic wire yet (it's held up in customs or something). The pics with the lights installed were just LED bulbs. In truth I haven't ever worked with fiber optics before and I'm going to be doing a lot of experimenting when I get mine. I may end up PM'ing you a bunch of silly noob questions since you seem to have a fair grasp of the stuff already.

Ok like I say all I know is that if you put light on one one it comes out the other with out leakage inbetween ...... Here is a great light effects web site that has Fiber Optic stuff ...... I may need one of those light cans the fiber kit I bought off of ebay had a bunch of different colors of fiber ...... So I thought there would be different colors of light using a white light souce ...... we'll see what happens when I get the defusing Material also on this web-sight ..... very interesting stuff give it a look see .....

Just read the tau blot and even though my hatred of all things tau flared up, I liked what I saw and am glad my chaos lord how to inspired and helped. One thing I'm looking for that I hope to see somewhere is a better basing solution then my felt and hot glue. Looking forward to. Seeing the final results on these proje ts

Maybe this'll help. (again, ignore the painting... I can wire and mod, but my painting skills need improvment)

Thats a quick preview of my current project. I'm working on two squads of custom hazzard havocs (actually, only the rhino is hazzard, the havocs are khorne - but thats what I'm calling them)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
To the guy doing the tau army, my best advice is less is more. I know you said at one point you wanted iron-man type tau (and I've actually been commissioned to do exactly taht for a buddy) but think on what you want the emphasis to be. If they have a chest light, eyes is a bit silly and might look odd. I've played with the idea of light up weapons, but prefer to keep in line iwth they eyes for now on my guys. Probably the most lit up model I've done so far is the rhino posted above, and even it might have too much. (has interior panels lit up, head lights, even track lighting above the seats). Also some people get flat out pissy if you have a distracting army. My goal has always been to have a good looking army that can light up, not a light up army that might look good. LEDs should be an addition to, not the main event. However, dont let me stop you from blinding someone cause that has its own bit of funny, but the effect comes off way better if they dont see it comming. Either way, the best thing to keep in mind is what the end result will be and shoot for that. Also, I noticed you are trying to do it all at once. I would recommend against that and back up and work on two or three at once. Reason being is this is tricky stuff. you learn a bit with each model, with specific regards to how to run wiring and fiber. As with painting, you will notice your first completions will be no where as good as your latest ones. There isnt a ton of advice out there on lighting up a single mini (which is why I made the video in the first place) so most of what you do will be learning and figuring out on your own. Use that, and trying to do it all at the same time removes the benefit of experience.

Well don't give up on this project ..... Lots of stuff hit the fan at my Hobby shop ...... I've been stomping out Fires left & right ..... I'm stuck on enlarging the base for my Terminator ..... any ideals on where too find a solution would be helpful ...... this is a pic of where I've gotten too after I pulled the fibers too hard and had to re-fiber twice now ..... I have the battery mounted ..... & will use a latching reed switch in the base for lights on/off ..... I never thought that all the stuff I learned as a electronic tech could be put to use this way ......
