It seems that RAW in this case was sort of mis-guided - being intended for imperial metal boxes. How else would you explain their choice of wording, "corners?" Most vehicles don't have corners so this is unfortunate.

So while this is NOT RAW, I sort of wish they had just said 90-90-90-90 for the facing of Side-Front-Side-Rear. If I'm not mistaken, that's how it was in 4th edition.

The rules don't actually tell you that the lines need to go through the centre of the vehicle though. It's the logical assumption (IMHO) but it appears to be missing RAW.

I'll be honest, I don't think my gaming group has been doing this correctly, we've just been going pretty much off four 90 degree arcs (maybe from playing too much BFG)

You do this. The rules state 90 degree arcs.

Specifically to the venom and raiders... Given the AV is the same all round, I assume this is more about the boosted cover saves than anything else yes?

No, the rules don't state that. Degrees don't come into play AT ALL.

BRB Pg 73. Read the bolded section of "Vehicle Facing and Armour Values," and bust out your protractor and compare it to the diagram that passage refers to (it's on page 73, too). The front and rear angles are 64.34 degrees, with the side angles being 115.66 degrees. It's not even HINTED at that it's 90 degrees.

For the Venom, and like-vehicles where the armor is the same all around, yes. For vehicles with a lower rear armor than side armor, it would come into play on a coverless open field.
