I'm not sure why people are suggesting that you should put something in a KR tray, it should be a snug or tight fit?
That seems obsurd to me. Place your lovingly created model in the right size slot (or one slightly bigger). I don't care who makes the foam if your squeezing a model that you deem fragile enough to put in a carry case at least out the bloody thing in the correct size hole!
I have mostly only ever bought standard cases and where more room is required (large German and British FoW thanks mostly) I will always make the slots bigger and hot glue the foam back. No bother and no damage.
The little buggers can bounce around upside down all day then and will not break or chip.
As always there seems to be an agenda of denegrating one product because you have something else, rather than actual experience of it.
BF are good; KR are good; Homemade case are good. It's just what you wan it to look like and what your budget is.

I've been using Sabol Designs Army Transports for long time. Two cases must be 12 yrs old.
When I first purchased them I thought the sponge/foam would be abrasive and possibly rub paint off models as they jiggled around in trays. They didn't. Only thing that has happened is some glue that held the pluck foam in got on a model or two. This was a problem on the original pluck foam trays, but they've fixed that problem because I never had the glue problem again, after 1st bag. 12 years no breakage.
The cases are dense enough that my fat cat, and 3 yr old used to fight over using it as a chair. Yikes! No breakage.
I've traveled around places playing tourneys. No breakage. I really like the custom pluck out foam. I can see right away whether I have all my figs or not. I haven't left any figs behind since I started using Sabol either- like 12 years.
I'm starting a new chaos army and decided to give Battlefoam a shot. Simply because I like the idea that I can zip on and off different bags as I travel. I also bought a custom fow bag to try BF out, before I drop a lot of $ on the new system. Its a lot more $ then sabol.
I haven't noticed any real difference. The BF bag seems much better quality, but my sabol has held up for 12 years, so... I think I'm really playing for the ability to zip on and off different bags and stack them.

Phydox, I think you'll find that, inch for inch, the custom cut (or standard cut) BF trays hold more than the pluck foam. If you're dealing with 1/4" pluck squares, but only need 1/8"... Tough. You've got to take the 1/4". Seems like very little, but it really adds up. Plus, you can arrange the models together on the trays in ways you just can't with pluck foam.
notprop makes sense, though, folks. Just because you have a preference, that doesn't mean you shouldn't denegrate foam you have no experience with.

Sabol was the only thing available locally when I was looking to buy a carrying case 12 years ago. Its held up. You make valid points Magickal/Memories thats why I picked up the custom BF flames of war bag, to try them out and have an open mind. I have a chaos Fantasy army, Im working on, that needs transportation soon. I wanna get a system I'm gonna be happy with convenience and price.

I've got 3 armies in Sabol; CSM, SM and Orks. So, I know where you're coming from.
If I'm expanding those armies, I'll go ahead and stick with Sabol for them but, since getting the BF for my Dark Eldar, it's all I'll use from here on out (and have, with my Necrons).

KR all the way. Been using them for ages, no breaks no nothing. Dropped them, stuff dropped on them and not once has there been damage.
BF price wise just not worth it. Having mates with bf cases and giving them a good look just no value to me personally. Just my opinion obviously folks will differ.

I use and recommend Battle Foam 100%. I've never had any breakage. I agree with what's been said, if you're experiencing breakage with Battle Foam:
a) the model wasn't constructed well or
b) the model is being foce fit into a space it shouldn't go

I've found i prefer KR's soft foam for stuff like my Fire Warriors, because while the body fits inside the infantry slot just fine, the rifle pokes out a long way. The foam being soft helps with this because you can lay the barrel of the rifle over the edge of the 'slot' and it will squish downwards and not poke into whatever is above it.
Ugh, not quite sure how to explain it, but i hope you get my idea.

So many games, so little time.
So many models, even less time.
Screw it, Netflix and chill. |

I do... and that's why your models break in firmer foam. You're not using a cut-out that's shaped for your model.
I'd trust my models in JUST the BF foam as much as I'd trust KR foam WITH the cardboard box.
