Totally dig the stone white ork. You could just say they came from a dying world caused by mold.

Races of Orks - I think your paint Job is awesome! and This is your Army you can do what ever you want with them. Don't let anyone tell you you can't. So let's explain why there are different color orks shall we?

Chlorophylls (Green) Orks - which are the most common.
So Orks get their green color from the Algae in their blood. The Algae would be called Chlorophylls (Chloro).

But Algae isn't just green you have
Carotenoid (Caro): Mostly your hot colors (Reds and Yellows)
Phycobilins (Phycob): Cool Colors (Blues and Purple).

You can also interbred making them any color you want

Even with Chloro, in bright lights, Algae tends to loss pigment so it doesn't absorb light. In darkness the color would be more intense. So the shading will tell you which race this ork is. I would say more of a Brown Grey making him a Caro Ork.

Personally, I paint all my Orks Purple making them Phycob Orks. No matter what we do, all Ork will still join in when they hear the Waaagh! cry.

Also. Orks can get dirty. Voilla, there is your red orks, from a dusty red planet like mars. There is your black orks, from a planet with tar-filled swamps. And so on. Orks don't bathe, and they won't understand this "fow-tow-sin-te-sis-wotsit's" anyway, so they wouldn't wash it off.

The problem with War Paint is it could hinder the blood flow, especially in brightly lit areas. On the face or head, I usually ask myself; do orks really need Blood flowing to their heads? Orks (especially Skarr Boyz) like to bleed, it actually makes them stronger. Fighting makes their Blood Flow and pumps them full of adreniline, thus making them Bigger and Stronger - something they can't by exercising or banging their heads against the wall.

Getting Dirty, I just want to clear this up, Orks don't like to be dirty, I know the other races find their smell off putting. But once again being dirty might hinder their ability to grow stronger.

How does warpaint hinder blood flow? Truly lost there on that one. Thanks Sleg for the information on the different types of chlorophyll. That was actually educational, look ma, I did learn something today!

Covering up the Skin for long periods of time doesn't allow for light to get in. Algae needs sunlight to multiply. In the case of the orks, fighting excites the Algae in their blood, if it doesn't have light the Algae (blood) will seek out the exposed skin to grow. So loose fitted cloths or armor. If the ork keeps his face paint the blood will stop flowing there.

As for why Orks eat? they are also part animal and food provides fuel or energy for fighting. They don't need food to sustain their lives.

That's assuming the sunlight can't penetrate the paint, which may or may not be true.

Well now that I got this fungi and chlorophyll information, I looked up the pictures of fungi and there is literally every color from red, yellow, white, to glow in the dark!. Cool stuff. But the other part of the question I needed to add was what determines what comes out of the spores? Some are orks, others are grots or squigs and other things. Do they farm these spores too?

Page 11 in the Codex - Nature of the Beast. You get the Wildboys (orklings), that fight amongst themselves until they are strong enough to fight a foe, those are Ork Boys. All Orks aren't built the same so there is no telling when they will get stronger or what they will do in their Kultur
