Under the couch

The door is inset into the side, and is flush. So when the door is closed, you just measure to the door. If the door is open, you would be measuring to where the door would be if it is closed, not to the open door.

The Open Topped Transports section of the BRB on Page 82 says the following:

"Open-topped vehicles do not have specific Access Points. Instead, all of the vehicle is considered to be an Access Point (regardless of any base they may have)."

Emphasis mine.

Still, most folks, including myself will ignore the doors.

“All” means the entire hull, rather than just specified access points. It doesn’t mean you get to disembark from banner poles and gun barrels.

Thanks everyone for participating, all of the views on the matter has lead to a conclusion in our FLGC that we had to vote. Result = 3 (Eldar,CSM,IG players) - 2 (SW & BA/GK players), that we measure from the HULL now on. But we agreed, that if this is ever FAQ´d otherwise, we follow that of course then.

I think of it this way: The doors go down when you land they have to you. You use them to walk out you don't use the doors one a rhino when it opens as part of the 'hull'. I don't know anyone who's every played it from the door if they want to argue it tell them to look up the definition of hull.

i am the only player at my local store who uses drop pods and my space wolf army is toting 7 of them at 1500pts!!!!

we had a check through the rules (shortly after 6th ed came out) and decided that the doors count as access, but they also count for scattering off the table (for mishaps), into terrain (for dangerous terrain), range (especially for meltas and such), etc. at tournaments (usually throne of skulls for me, sometimes store-vs-store invasions) i have always let my opponents do so as well

not a single complaint has come my way thus far.

much as it is a purely irrational concept, i cant stand other people touching/moving my models (their mere gaze could cause them harm, let alone actually touching them ) so i am always uncomfortable with models clambering over my drop pods. it seems really petty, and i dont even bring it up if it happens..... i just dont like it. (i even have a few "destroyed" drop pods that i use to replace the ones that get wrecked ).
