I would prefer that all models in a given unit be on the same base size whether new, old or a mix of the two.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I'm all for any size base that actually came with it new, or whatever the current model comes with. My only issues come from people using those smaller based models simply because their smaller., like having three termi units and only the smaller based ones are deep striking in, or mixing base sizes in the same unit.
Granted there's nothing in the rules explicitly against doing just that, i personally feel it's common courtesy to set a standard at least within your own army for base sizes and the like.

If the models are painted well, but are on smaller bases from an older release, then I will admire them and ask about how my opponent plays them.
If they are black plastic, then I will tell my opponent that he should really get some newer-sized bases, since he obviously doesn't care about the aesthetics.
The only reason I can think of refusing to play would be something along the lines of the Doom on an extremely large base; this would obviously be MFA to take advantage of Spirit Leech.
But I regularly play a guy who has Mawlocs w/o bases. It's been a minor issue on occasion, but nothing game-changing.

I'd be in the stay coherent camp. Most of the times I don't mind about the actual size, but mixing older and newer base sizes? Meh
