Well you can gear a support guy towards being a specialist gizmo guy with fancy smoke grenades and reaction fire abilities but I never do because I think it's a bit of a waste....but y'know that sounds like what you're hoping for.

I guess my nickname is less flattering, considering my subsequent blowing up of said energy being.

And We are back! Apparently, aliens take the weekend off as well (the fiance had me tied up doing wedding prep).
While communications were temporarily down, i responded to a (by now routine) abduction in Mexico City, Mexico. I took a gamble and sent four rookies as I was desperately short on capable NCOs. Long story short, it was a blood bath... for the aliens. The rookies finally pulled it together and downed 6 sectoids without so much as a scratch (although they used rather more explosives than I would have liked). All four of them earned promotions to squaddie so welcome Docta Deth (Sniper), Purplefood the Magnificent VI (female sniper), Sniper Scott (Sniper) and Venser's Revenge (Heavy) to the fold.
In addition, we have finished researching arc throwers so we can now capture aliens. Currently I'm over-strength in snipers and under-strength in assault and support but shouldn't be a problem yet.
Current kill counts and Status.
Otto Von Swanzstucker II (gentleman and exploder of aliens). NCOIC. Corporal Rank. Missions 4. Kills 7.
DA's Forever. Corporal Rank. Missions: 2. Kills: 6.
Dave: Squaddie. Missions: 3 Kills: 3
Docta Deth: Squaddie. Missions: 1. Kills 1
Venser's Revenge: Squaddie. Missions: 1. Kills 2
Purplefood the Magnificent VI: Squaddie. Mission: 1. Kills 1.
Sniper Scott: Squaddie. Missions: 1. Kills 2.
Everyone is off the disabled list, so personnel wise we are looking pretty good. Now that I've gotten some people up to speed, I need to focus on panic and research. We are plugging away on weapon's tech as I'm trying to rush getting lasers. We have serious trouble in Australia and Brazil while Egypt and Argentina are very worried. Hopefully we won't be forced into any no win situations. Anyway... we'll hit the clock and see what fate has in store for us shall we?
We've been contacted by the mysterious Council to escort a pro-alien Japanese politician in for .... questioning (sounds like probing to me). Anyway, he recently come under attack and we are rushing to help. If we succeed, this will keep Australia from going over the edge and I will get a Support Sergeant!
Operation Glass Stranger. 1015pm. Fukoaka, Japan.
Otto Von Swanzstucker II has point with DA's Forever on his wing. Sniper Scott will clear the way while Dave will escort Mr. Thorne, our politician.
We drop into a tight back alley between some stores. the Sky ranger has to reposition further down the block as we hustle the very cross Mr. Thorne out of his weekly Bridge game.
DA's Forever and Dave drag the reluctant Mr. Thorne into a nearby Manga shop while Scott and Otto climb to the roof. Thin men begin dropping in around us, but so far things are fairly quiet as they content themselves with long range pot shots at us in heavy cover... Things are going well. The alley between buildings is crawling with Sectoids, but my man Otto is mowing them down. Thin men are dropping on the other side and DA's Forever takes one down when disaster strikes. Hiding over in the tentacle porn section of the manga shop, a sectoid step out of the shadows and guns DA Forever down even as Dave overwatches the alien's partner down. DA NOOOOO!
Otto is called in off the roof and he quickly destroys one alien... but there is a third and he hits Otto pretty bad. Sniper scott has to clamber down off the roof now too and lobs a grenade at the last sectoid. As the sectoid shrieks and gets busy dying, A thin man comes out of nowhere and cruelly shoot Otto Von Swanzstucker II (gentleman and exploder of aliens) in the back. Otto is dead. Back at HQ, a stunned Scruffy sits back in his chair and weeps salty tears of grief and rage. The rest of the mission is a blur as Dave and Scott manage to get that bastard thorne to the waiting skyranger and take out the remaining two aliens, but it is a hollow victory.
This Mr. Thorne has better be worth it.

Sniper scott is doing well. He bagged two aliens and wounded a third in this mission as well as a couple kills before. You're advancing quickly. You also got Dave out of a pretty bad jam that last match as he had two thin men bearing down on him with no ammo in his assault rifle. You and Dave are actually the Senior members of XCOM minus our new Support Sergeant KamikazeCanuck!

Awesome report: loving your write-up's Scruffy, excellent job all-round.
Can't say I'm surprised by us dropping like flies; although Otto probably had it coming, as his character has been kicking arse in both our threads! I've never been a huge fan of heavies, myself; it was my snipers and assault that did the heavy lifting in my games...
Look forward to more, definitely agree with trying to rush getting lasers
