The guardsman was probably painted blue.

They never were.

11 Armor on the side and a 24" gun is a recipe for disaster.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

At 1999, BA can field so many 13 fronts. 2 Vindicators, 1 Pred, 3 Baal Preds. This is the only time I play vindicators, but every time I do they are always my opponents priority ONE. Knowing this going in is usually a big help before the battle even begins. Just another small advantage the vindicator brings.

If it was the first shot of the game, then there is a good chance that it was twin-linked from BiD.

I play SW, and personally LOVE my Vindicators. I always take at least 1. Part of the reason I love them is they fit the aesthetic/theme of the Space Wolves, blunt, in your face, and kicks out a gak-tonne of pain.
Also it's the only way I can get hold of a str10 ap2 pie plate outside of FW. In at least 2 games with them I've blown up my opponents Land Raider the first time I aimed for the unit next to it. So, scatter dice hate me, but apparently my Armour-pen ones love me
I've never really had an issue with them dying turn 1 or 2, possibly because the guy I usually play against doesn't have much in the way of anti-tank, and he also rolls poorly. However, others are right, with two, the probability of at least one pie-plate surviving increases drastically, and can even be a game-changer right up until the final bell.
I love me a vindi, end of

I see alot of value with BA Vindicators, especially supported by Baals.

For Chaos, the special bonus is daemonic possession and I'm not sold on if it's worth it.
