Our local Game Store had a simple Policy, if you don’t have the Rules for something you can’t use it in “Official” Games. This prevented a lot of TFGs and WAAC Players from puling stuff.

And this is a sensible policy: no rules, no game. There's no need to get into arguments about FW/codex or rule availability, just require everyone to bring all of the rules for their army and allow their opponents to read them at any time.

I don't have any problem with people who don't play with FW. Don't like a FW unit? Don't put it in your list. What I do have a problem with is those people trying to tell those of us who do play with FW units that we're not allowed to (whether through bans or refusing to play against anyone who wants to use a FW unit).

I don't see the hydras as dedicated anti air more dedicated anti zenos skimmer (tau, eldar, necron, dark eldar)

The problem with that plans is that it's still a pretty small set of targets. Even if xenos armies are common in your area Tau often don't use vehicles at all, and autocannons are pretty much useless against AV 13 Necron vehicles. So yeah, Hydras are good against DE and decent against Eldar (AV 12 is still a tough target for Hydras even when firing at full BS), but I'm skeptical of wasting a heavy support slot on tailoring for space elves.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

There is a downside to the Hydra ignoring jink saves, and that is that you can't force a flyer to evade in order to reduce its firepower. Of course, killing a target is the prime objective of shooting at it, but significantly reducing its firepower by forcing an evade is a good outcome too. The evade rules remind me a lot of playing BFG, where forcing someone to brace was a decent tactic, as was forcing them to make the decision between extra firepower, or sacrificing it for an extra save.

Whtas wrong with someone not wanting to play your tau or your forgeworld?

40K isn't some massive regulated league, if people want to play with restrictions like no necron air or (the one I came into a lot in 2nd ed) no psychic scream spam that shouldn't be a problem.

The issue basicly comes down to enviroment, in a tournament bringing an obscure FW unit your opponent has never seen and abusing an outdated unit entry is both big and clever, Doing the same thing when people just want to throw some battleforce armies around in PUGs might not be so well received.

This little soapbox you jump on everytime someone mentions they don't run FW is getting tiresome.

If it makes you happier think of them as core game players, messing about with heroquest while you play with the grown ups at AD&D.

If you feel someone is telling you that, just ignore them peregrine mate, they're being a daftie. Everyone always says you cannot use FW in games workshop but my local GW store (Edinburgh) allows them in its wee tournaments no bother so they are just being selective with their evidence. Eventually everyone will catch up, until then enjoy the extra variety and far higher standard of models...
