You can get a tiny laser pointer for $10 at Wal-Mart, Target, or any number of places.

Your cat(s) will love them, too.

More importantly though, why haven't they invented some sort of laser thingy that can project a perfect three and five or six inch circle shape for blast templates! There's got to be a relatively easy way to do that!

I had been cogitating about this myself, the only problem is that to get an accurate measurement you need to correctly locate the emitter at a specific altitude above the datum and completely vertical, and subsequently you wind up with a flashlight on a stick

True, but surely you could have two smaller beams that intersect at a certain angle and height to calculate that by eye or something?

You could make an array of laser pointers in a circle around a blast template, and altitude would be largely irrelevant. So just get like 20 pointers

I like the idea though. You just lower/raise it until the two pointers are only one dot on the board.

Haha tempting, but there's got to be a simpler way...how does one start a kick starter to get someone else to make something for them?

They do. Most presentation laser pointers can do arrows, circles, underline, etc. just figure out the right height for the 3" and 5" and go.
