I do kind of like the idea of bikes to handle this, the more I think about it, mostly because it combines shooting and close combat nicely. I guess the problem is that they ARE still PA guys. I know raptors are as well, but my brief interest in them is already fading, in part for this very reason.

Never had the chance to test them yet, (still buying and painting the models), but I'm looking forward to try 6/7 CSM Bikers with Icon of Excess and a Lord with Burning Brand of Skalathrax.
Yes, they are power armour guys, but with increased toughness, access to a cover save and with Feel No Pain. Not to mention that thanks to their speed they won't spend many turns in the open, so the opponent will have few chances to shoot at them. That should increase their durability a lot. In most games they won't score, though, which is a sad drawback.

I believe that they are also a fantastic answer to the Dire Avenger problems... I don't recall ATM if the Blade of Storm allows you to take a cover save, however Feel No Pain will fore sure allow you to mitigate the problem. The twin-linked boltguns should also allow to increase your hits, thus coming up for the lesser number of models firing at them. And of course they should have the speed to catch them without much hassle. Not to mention the fact that the Burning Brand should toast them in a very pleasant way

WS are literally uncatchable with an 18" assault 2 strength 6 gun that becomes AP1 on 6's and a d6 battle focus and 2d6 jetpack withdraw you can't get the.

You realize that Warp Spiders only have 12 inches of range right?

It sure does allow a cover save.

Or you can just claim it's all bad luck and you're really the best player in the world if not for those dice and/or cards.
