In the 4th edition Nid codex, that a Hive Fleet or some other relation to Nids tried to settle on a planet in Imperial Space, seeking a place to escape oppressors in another galaxy. So they talk or whatever, have conch like spacecraft, says talking nids to me.
Seriously interesting piece of fluff and it's a shame it was never expanded upon.
Those were probably Zoats, which were a slave-race to the Tyranid at the time, and which have since vanished from all mentions of the game.
Yeah, that was a throwback to the Zoats. Notice they were described entirely differently to Tyranids - Centaur-like in appearance but still made use of Tyranid symbiotic weapons if somewhat painfully, flying ships in the shape of a Conch seemingly made of stone, and communicated psychically, and claimed to be slaves escaping another race. While they haven't said so, that's describing Zoats.
Since they communicate psychically, it's likely they could communicate with the Tyranids, who communicate psychically themselves. This doesn't mean anyone could do it - maybe these creatures were able to withstand the cacophony of untold billions of voices. No creature in the Milky Way has shown the ability to short of Tigerius with his plot armour.

They probably will though, since supposedly Ward's got the codex.
I can see it now....
Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
I am simultaneously horrified and slightly aroused.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!" |

Where did you hear Matt Ward has the new tyranid codex?
Natfka, a couple months ago when the Nids rumors were popping up. I'm pretty sure it's not confirmed, but he did really want to write the last one, but it was given to Cruddace instead and he got Grey Knights.

As an interesting thought, I would like to add that Lictors (any thingthing else with Feeder Tendrils) are able to consume brains and "learn" some of what the deceased knew. This implies some sort of understanding (and goes some way towards explaining why Deathleaper has a master's degree in psychology).
From there, it is quite feasible that the Tyranids could design a creature to use that information to communicate... but the real question is why would it bother? They gain nothing from saying hello to your prey that they don't gain from stabbing them in the face.

This reminds of the scene in Independence Day. Where the alien wraps a tentacle around the dead humans throat... says "no peace" then just "die". If a Nid did talk, thats about the only things I think it would have to say.

Most likely he bellowed an unflattering remark about the biomass of Calgar's mother. Gets him every time, poor guy.

The logical interperetation is the Swarmlord roared at Calgar and settled into a fighting posture.

It was really just a misunderstanding.
The Nids see fat as a desirable trait, while humans do not. A compliment turned into an insult by cultural differences.
Of course the Swarmlord deeply regrets this incident. its why he's never returned to Ultramar.
