Nova Charged shields.

So you can wound yourself once before suffering instant death?

The farsight Enclave needs not worry about that issue.

I generally ignore them for the most part. Against my Mechdar the Ion Cannon really just doesn't threaten me and I've only ever come up against the HBC once.

Pathfinders are always priority number one for me, they are the things which really hurt my Serpents in an indirect manner.

500pts isnt a real game....theres so many models that become unstoppable at that level and the Riptide is one of them. Barring it getting caught somehow by a melee beast, it wont die at that point level.

Normal games, riptides should be ignored. They technically provide less punch than crisis bombs (to me anyway) but not by much and the insane range/durability makes up for it. Crisis suits usually die pretty quick if theyre the alpha strike of your army, riptides will almost never die in 1 turn or even 2 for that matter barring assault.

In all the times ive fielded a riptide the only times ive ever had it shot at was when it failed 3 or more nova charges, so doing 1-2 more wounds to it to finish it off is definitely worth it. Usually if that happens though im struggling because i never fail more than 1 a game unless its one of those games where you never pass anything lol

When dealing with Tau I usually prioritize. I know which units can take it down, and assign them to this task accordingly. (Usually Vulkan and a squad of Hammernators.)

I'm pretty sure crons can't ally with IG or are desperate

Yeah, it's a desperate alliance. Anyone but the 'nids can ally with Guard.

Also, why not use their diversion strategy against them? (From a Guard perspective) Why not just sacrifice a chimera, small blob or other seemingly juicy target to the almighty Riptide whilst infiltrating storm troopers or melta vets quietly close in and fry it? Really, there are few problems a trusty AP 1 or 2 weapon can't solve.

.... Except Tyranids. Or Ork mobs. Or corruption permeating the Imperium. Or the slum conditions of Hive worlds. Or...

I don't think you realize what you've done. I've been fiddling with a Screamerstar, trying to fill in the "holes" in the list. Basically, Flickering Fire isn't very good at killing high toughness MCs. It dawned on me I'm AoC with ABG. Now I can bring in beast hunter shells and a Vendetta (and I happen to already own a Vanquisher and a Detta)

Yeah, from what I've noticed I win the games when my Riptide is target priority,
When my opponent is shooting at my riptide instead of my pathfinders its hard for me not to smile
when someone looks past my riptide and shoots at the fire warriors and pathfinders, thats when I have to go into a bit more of strategy mode
Ive noticed even around 1000-1250p games when my riptide is targeted it still takes more than 1 turn to take him down and thats a huge waste of time on their part,
I use the ion accelorator with mine and his BS3 makes it pretty bad without marker lights, this weekend Im picking up my second one and (they will both be magnetized) my second one will primarily be heavy burst,
also... Is the farsight enclaves worth it? I dont use crisis suits so im not sure

Anyone who targets the Riptide first really doesn't know what they're doing.

1st priority against Tau should be the Pathfinders with markerlights. They're squishy, and a great target for first blood.

My AT fire goes into the Skyrays/Hammerheads on turn 1-2, unless the skyrays have fired all their missiles on turn 1.

As I play Eldar, my wraithknight may shoot at the riptide. He won't get an armour save, and there's a chance i'll roll a 6 to wound, which means the riptide goes away very quickly.

I find the wraithknight gets the same sort of attention. I really don't mind if my opponent shoots at him really. Like the riptide, the damage output is moderate considering how much they cost. They points goes into their durability, so if they're shooting at it, i'm already making my points back in other things that arn't blowing up.

8,000 pts and counting
1,000 points, now painting.

I went up against a wraithknight one time...
T8 is a stuggle to kill, I was playing with my necron at the time and had 3 squads of destroyers, they ended up killing it in 1 turn, took 30 shots wounding on 6's but the AP3 made it worth it,
also it wasnt kitted with the shield

Wraithknights are not durable despite the T8. All that does is prevent random gak from hurting it. In any real sizable game theres enough S7+ weapons to kick its butt, and most of those pen its armor except autocannons. Theyre tougher than most units yes but MC-wise theyre pretty squishy

6 Toughness 8 wounds with a 3+ and an optional 5++ is not squishy MC-wise. The only things more durable than a Wraithknight are Dreadknights, Riptides and Great Unclean Ones. When the only things tougher than you are the 2 cheesiest things that should never have been made MCs and a Greater Daemon of Nurgle you're pretty damn tough.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Wraithknights are tough, but I'd sacrifice the T8 for a T6 with 2+ save any day... Seems to last longer

I'd like to have either one on something that's role isn't paper weight.
