My wife and I haven't even dipped outside of the Main Box yet, and we've had a lot of fun. The Tutorials in the game are some of the best I've ever had experience with; it's made teaching the game EXTREMELY easy.

Just to note, the above comment is regarding Krosmaster Arena, not Color Warz, for someone glancing at the thread (you know who you are, lurker! )

Too much "gotta catch 'em all" for me at times... a board game should be at least mostly self-contained for a really good gaming experience, with optional content being truly optional or modifying the game in a significant way as an expansion (not integral to the base game).
But it's good to hear you like Krosmaster with a lower buy-in... even watching it at GenCon I still couldn't figure out how much was really needed for a good experience. This game is very similar in that respect, imo.
That's why I stayed out too - I've got enough problems as it is with Wargaming without adding in another one!
That and the KS Comments Section for Krosmaster was...unbelievable.
We'll see how this one goes.
I like these miniatures a lot more than what Krosmaster was offering...

I like them too, but....
A: I'm an entitled, spoiled American and don't ever want to pay for shipping.
B: Think it's a touch too expensive at this point to hop in without the minis. I think the game, without the minis, looks like a Print and Play game, honestly. I mean, the standups have white backgrounds. Come on son.
But yeah, Alph, RTides, If you have a spouse that only will game with you occassionaly, I think Krosmaster is a really good value. The game is very well done, and easy to teach.

This game looks absolutely awesome (with minis... not so much with cardboard/wood punchouts). It's even got an asthetic my wife would like and play.
I was so excited after seeing the minis that I grabbed one of the VIP platinum spots so I got both games and (I thought) all the minis. After looking at it again it appears I am missing a good chunk of the minis after spending almost $400 US.
WOW, I have read reviews on the minis (which are supposedly ridiculously great with no mould lines, etc) but I'd have to pledge the minis pledge (almost $700!!!) in order to get all the minis (78 minis), and that doesn't even include the game!
Looks like they wont lower their price point on their minis under $9-10... if they can't get these prices under control I'm going to be dropping my pledge :(

The early bird for just the games wasn't too bad- 55+ shipping (pounds that is) for both the new game, the original game, and the Heroes of Normandie board, along with some new mini.
The question is do I want to spend that much on just cardboard?
For nearly the same price I'm picking up Burning Suns which looks to have just as much replayabilty and MINIATURE SPACE SHIPS. Lots of 'em.

Not sure if there was some confusion but that $700 pledge is actually for two separate games; Color Warz: Paint Brawl and Color Warz: Dark Threat plus all the miniatures needed to play both games.
For Color Warz: Dark Threat, the full game plus miniatures is £225 (equivalent to around $350 to $360 I think). Admittedly that's still a lot of money but it has to be said that those miniatures are very good quality and pretty much most of the 24 miniatures are unique models which is a lot pricier than having lots of duplicates.
Also, to 455_PWR, I think you'll find that the £460 (~$700?) pledge level does include both games (Paint Brawl and Dark Threat) - that's part of what they call "The Silver Pack" that is included at that pledge level (i.e. the Dark Threat game plus any Game Box stretch goals)
For those discussing Krosmaster Arena; I have that and it's a very good game and the mini are very cute. I do think the miniatures for this are far superior though but bear in mind that they come unassembled and unpainted (which could be a big deterrent for some folks). Automatically Appended Next Post: New update for this KS goes to show that these guys are listening to feedback.
They've changed their "Early bird" pledges to include a set of 7 miniatures.
That makes for a much more interesting starting level if you're interested in the miniatures as well as the game.

I think campaigns like this may be making a mistake with the big bonus early birds (in this case, confusingly called "VIP" rather than early bird, with "Early" being the pledges released after that).
You apparently got the previous game if you pledged in the first 2 days, but now for the same cost you do not. For folks who were on the line, that's disincentive rather than incentive to pledge. At this point, it doesn't look like this will fund- only 1 backer and a £5 increase today, and only 3 backers and around a £200 increase each of the previous two days- and those were only the third and fourth days of the campaign!
It's just not a very good deal, nor do they have the pedigree to just assume folks will pledge... and to top it off, it's confusing.
Hopefully they turn it around but I think they needed to have structured things differently to have more success with this campaign. It's good that they updated the new "early" pledge levels, but as they point out, it's only because no one has selected them with several days in which to do so

Yeah, I got a super early slot but it feels like it will be to no avail. The prices are very high, which is a bit of a turn off for most sane people. I only jumped because it was such a bargain that first day.
I do hope they turn it around. Worst case they try again later.

Yep, it feels like with relatively simple models they could have done them in something other than resin, to keep the costs below very high. The concept and minis look really nice, and I hope it succeeds because of that, but it's just too high for me to jump on board for.

I wonder if the creators have thought of pursuing plastic models? Single piece fixed pose for a lot of the basic stuff?
I see the cost of everything being very prohibitive to all but a select few.
If you want to get your game out there, wouldn't you want to get it into as many hands as possible?

I think they are staying away from plastic for a reason. If you look at reviews of their minis, they make high quality resin minis that have almost no mould lines, etc. $10-15 a mini isn't bad considering GW charges up to $27 for a finecrap mini or a plastic librarian, it just sucks when that dollar amount is multiplied by 78 minis, even with a small discount.
I know that the minis for gaming pledge level contains both games (so does my VIP platinum pledge). However, one would think the base games should not cost much as they are just cardboard punchouts with a board.
I just wish there was a major Kickstarter "sweet spot" discount like $300-$400 for both games and 1 of each mini produced. Most KS campaigns have one pledge that includes everything for a steal of a deal. I'm sure that won't happen though, I'm not that lucky.
I was going to drop my pledge but then they added the second KS exclusive mini to the VIP pledges, and this game has me and my wife excited. I can add the other minis for the base game at a later time, which is fine by me. Or maybe I'll sell a Seson 1 Zombicide set or a Krosmaster set to pay for this as it just looks too cool!

@455_PWR you are right. We made a resin miniature range because we make miniatures for collectors and painters.
Our games are easy access. They are made to initiate people on wargaming and tabletop games.
Do not be disturb by the "Z" part or paint. Those games are made for (hard) core gamers too (see Ravage article for exemple).
So, we have an high quality miniature range and an accessible game range. Cardboard shapes are more accessible than miniatures for casual gamers.
For sure you can play with miniatures but it is more expensive.
If you have questions, we can talk about it, for sure.

Hello mates
New & nice review of Paint Brawl game from Tabletop Gaming News that we liked a lot : http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2013/10/01/79080/
For those who want only our game, for now 70£+7,5/10£ (125/140 $ / 100€), you can get both our tabletop games and 5 figurines in bonus (thanks to the bonus strech) !
I think that it needed to be said and spread
Thanks,

Hmm, it appears the kickstarter campaign has been cancelled... that's disappointing.
From what I can see it was due to the very high price point. The game had awesome reviews, awesome minis, the only complaint I ever heard was that it had near Kingdom Death prices for a cute game like Super Dungeon Explore.
I know there was talk/an email about a re-boot, but I'm still upset that I lost by special early bird platinum pledge.

With the base game getting picked up by Asmodee though, that might be more beneficial than a kickstarter in the long run.
Maybe have paint brawlz make more a mark internationally and then have another crack at kickstarting round two.
Also, getting the minis into the box at a reasonable price should be a serious goal. They look cool. I would have been alright with just cardboard, but even board game quality plastics would do wonders I think.
People love mini games on kickstarter.

Agreed! Without super fine detail needed on a lot of these, I think it should be possible to make them cheaper. PVC would actually work decently well for these figures (a la SDE figs)... expensive resins for a board game is just too expensive.
It's all about context, but with the easy comparisons in figure detail / design to Super Dungeon Explore, resin wasn't the right way to go for this campaign, imo.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, they made an update before cancelling the campaign, and seem to have plans to quickly launch a reboot:
Update: Campaign Reboot wrote:Hello Backers,
These last 27 days, we worked hard to propose you the best campaign we can.
We did a huge start with £10,000 in one day but only £8,000 in the following 26 days.
We count today 135 backers but we have lost around 30 of you.
As you can see in the Kicktraq, if we do nothing, staying in this situation, we will not reach our goal at the end of the campaign.
We have too many pledges (15) and our offers are not clear at all.
We wanted to make the best choice for you but we did wrong.
For all of these reasons, we decided to make a reboot.
We know that we might lose some of you but we have to be objective.
Without a reboot, we won't make it.
So, we will come back this week with a clearer offer and a campaign focused on gamers.
But you do not have to worry if you are a hobbyist. All of our miniatures will be available on the new optionnal stuff, without locking. So, if you are a painter, a collector or a tabletop gamer, you will find what you need with a Kickstarter special discount.
We will also make one and only one VIP offer but it will be nice, very nice.
We hope to see you in our new Color Warz : Dark Threat campaign.
We count on you !

Curious as to how they're going to get the game more competitive. I hope they can get all their issues sorted out in just a week. That isn't a whole lot of time to move forward!
Interesting you guys all brought up Super Dungeon Explore- I hadn't even thought of that.
If they could put figures like that into the box, wrap it up at a reasonable price, see about using Asmodee's American wing to help with shipping and fulfillment in order to get free shipping in the US (or at least build it into the cost) I can see the game doing a lot better.

I brought up SDE because this game has the same "cute" and funny aspect as SDE, Krosmaster, etc has. You know what I'm talking about, the same asthetic that makes your significant other actually want to play... . For example, I told my wife I was going to sell some mini games due to a little one on the way and we could put the money toward our new SUV. She enthusiastically told me not to sell Krosmaster Arena, SDE, or Bossmonster because she said "they look cute" (and she has never played SDE or Krosmaster yet). She didn't care if I sold my Dust, 40k, Sedition Wars, Zombicide, LOTR, Mage Knight, etc.
I think the other reason for the fail was the cardboard standups in the base game. People like minis, collecting them, painting them, kids play with them, game with them , etc. The last time I gamed with cardboard standups was playing candyland when I was 5. Not knocking cardboard standup games, Fluo has a great game but I think it needs the minis to succeed (most of the backers of the last KS backed levels with minis).
I think they'd be well off to use plastic as long as they are carefull about what kind of plastic they use (quality plastic). I would be very interested purchasing this game with plastic minis. However I also personally like collecting and painting resins. This game's resins are some of the best I've seen and they were asking very fair prices, but the price point was just too high for one of everything.
I'll be looking to get into this game again with the re-boot, I just hope it is a success this next time around. I hope they'll use the business model for Mars Attack, Zombicide, Wild West Exodus, Sedition Wars, Reaper' Bones, Deadzone, etc... lots of plastic minis with an awesome game for a good $100-$150 price point.

Roughly $60 to get the base game and the stretch goals. $45 if you just want the base game.
It looks like everyone has to pay shipping regardless of where you live. For US backers it's going to add on another $23.
The total price seems on the high side for what you get. I'm not willing to pay much at all for paper standies...
