Yes! As fun as Space Marine is, what I really want is a good first or third person shooter where you play as the Guard. Like, CoD meets Gaunt's Ghosts. Or a grimdark Halo.

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek) |

-The fluff
As cool as space marines are, I admire the bravery and tactics of the vastly underrequipped guardsman.
-The look
With so many planets, its great to have the awesome variety of the guard. WW2 soldiers, quick drop troops, and musclebound jungle fighters are all extremely cool.
-The tactics
In my opinion, no other army is as fun to play. There are so many different ways to go, gunline, vets, flyers, and all that. But it still can come down to the humble BS 3 S3 of the guardsman that wins the fight.

I like Renegade Imperial Guard mostly because I like playing the bad guys xD I really like the concept of massed infantry and armor fighting together so they really appeal to me

The Emperor may be able to see everything but do you think he can see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch? |

For me, it's the fact that the galaxy is filled with genetically engineered superwarriors and organisms that exist purely to kill you in an instant, yet these guys are just guys.
It must take a colossal pair of balls to face up to any of that Or at least the barrel of a Commisar's bolt pistol pressed into your back.

Glorious Lord of Chaos
The burning pits of Hades, also known as Sweden in summer

What I like with the Guard is that lorewise they are so extremely weak so that they are roflstomped by pretty much everything, but sometimes, through pure human spirit and courage, they actually manage to snatch a win against the ludicrously dangerous horrors of the galaxy. That makes them very likeable. Now, lore is not consistent of course, and other sources say that they have no trouble holding off the other factions, with commissars killing CSMs left, right and centre. But, while I love them when they push through and win against the odds, as soon as victory is something you expect of them, they lose all of their charm. That is why I will probably never play IG in 40k.
Compare Ollanius Pius, the guardsman who saved the Emperor, not due to physical strength or toughness or anything, but pure simple courage; (Not sure if that was retconned though) to Catachans in DoW2, who slaughter Marines in melee without breaking a sweat. Those as examples of what I mean.
