How you've modeled the (non-vehicle) model is irrelevant, you place the narrow end of the template in contact with the base, not wherever the weapon actually is.

B is possible, regardless of where the weapon is on the model.

I was attempting to use the logic of 'the flamer hitting itself therefore making it an illegal shot' against those who said b wasn't possible.

Any of those are legal at face value, we could only tell you which of the three would be illegal after placing targets. If option B prevents you from hitting as many enemies as possible then it would not be a valid option.
