oh sweet, that sounds awesome! when done get a shot of the troops next to the vehicle so I can see!
Ah ok, think I get what you've done il keep that in mind (although not starting my force till post x-mas), might do a few test models before though - getting giddy and sure I wont be able to wait
Looking forward to seeing the sail, do you airbrush I assume? or painting regular stylie? I am consiering using my airbrush to get a fade from say orange to yellow and using black lines to create a checkered pattern that instead of being two colours simply fades as the squares move.

Hmm dark eldar... Well my current plan is to buy DE and eldar kits, kit bash them into an exodite harlequin styled army. I was primarily just gona run eldar rules, but thinking now that I might run eldar with DE allies, as they are battle brothers.
Do like the idea of a DE force, but I just hear they can be difficult to play (only just started collecting again and only played twice with my orks so far! - long way from being good )

I will tell you this much run a wych army with designated transports. With the right combat drugs, you can get up to 80 attacks on a charge, I have wiped out full terminator squads and use my raids as armor hunters. I typically use wych as troops with designated transports, then run scourges as my heavy armor hunters, with reaver jet bikes as my fast attack, I am also torn between jet bikes and hellions. But DE is definitely about using terrain to your advantage and getting into Close Combat as fast as possible! Eliminate the leader to lower morale check, get first strike, DE wychs will only last 2-3 rounds of combat usually. But if you get your 3rd pain token (elimate a squad) then you can use them to entangle while your scourge, reavers and raiders get into position for the final blow to the hard hitters and mop up the left overs, lances will out right kill space marines and dark lances blow through the toughest armor I believe on a 4. Then since raiders are open top assault vehicles you can shoot from the raider, and also move the raider full distance, disembark and still move the troops and then assault. If you want I think it's grotesques which the enemy needs to moral check, if they fail they have to shoot at the grotesques and they don't die unless killed outright. Awesome to get your troops across the field.

Been playing DE for 13 years. So I have tried many play styles.

As for my painting, I don't use air brushes, don't use inks, I try and stay away from silver and gold, I have been itching to work on my non-metal metal painting style. I like to blend by traditional painting style, it allows you to blend in different ways and makes fixes a little easier, like I blended teal and purple I wanted to do a pearlescent look on the helmet. Where you look at it one way it likes it's purple and when you look closer it's teal. I want to try air brushing just don't have the space or station for it.

Yeh looking really good man
Only thing it took me awhile to notice was the drug tubes, (having not seen DE much), but what i would say is the colour of the tubes (green ones yeh?) are quite similar to the armour? finding there not so eye catchy, which in itself is obviously a choice, as they do look good, but perhaps a different colour if you wanted them to pop out? Blue id imagine would work, hmm or not :/ maybe im not sure

But overall the armour plates and highlights look wicked and the marking on the gauntlet looks really good in that pale yellow

Have you ever run harle squads? the actual elites choices in your armies? I wanted to run scourges too, simply because they look awesome! Was thinking basically:

Farseer with reapers (modelled as death jesters), scouts as eldar troops, Warp spiders, swooping hawks and scourges as FA, wyches as DE troops with a couple harle units and some striking scorpions.

Basically because I wanted to play a real sort of hit+run force and I love jetpack units like hawks and spiders

@Solar: again thank you for your support and feed back, I was also looking at the combat drug tubes and the ones under the arms are a very light green highlighted with yellow it is much lighter then the armor plates, and the ones over the shoulder are a light pink color, since there is 6 different combat drugs effects, I plan on altering the tubes on the other troops, so some will be blue, some will be pink, some will green, some will be an orange, some will be a red, some will be yellow. As for the emblem on the arm, I did a golden yellow, I mixed a yellow with a brown mix, to give it a nice golden yellow look. It allows me to highlight with straight yellow color. I am trying to hold off on the metallic paints as much as possible.

My mistake, I was looking at this thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/562834.page, and linked over here to your thread when you posted the link to it in that thread... I just posted in the wrong thread. No offense intended your scheme is awesome, don't change anything.

Ah ok, yeh tubes with different colours would be a nice touch Would help give a little idividuality without actually being much effort. Yeh I enjoy the non-metallic style, but I think thats probably because I dislike metal paints, there application always seems less controlled.

Can I ask, whats the average time per model? must be looking at quite a few hours?

I think, the longest part of painting each model is determining what I should paint and how I should paint it, how to make each one a little individualized, it's difficult to keep focused on a particular model. The checkered red and blue took FOREVER easily 4-5 hrs. Armor plates about 2-3hrs on all the models. The skin color the purple look, it took a couple tries to get the color and look I wanted, so that took 2-3hrs, now I am getting to the splinter pistols and hit a roadblock been testing a couple looks but haven't found one that's wow'd me yet. Now figuring out how to do each individual hair style.

By the way it's taken me a lot longer because I am using a very cheap acrylic paint the ones that cost $1, but it makes it easy and less costly to play with colors and mixing but it does require a lot more finess and a coat or two.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Some very nice looking models there. The scheme is great. I do not have the patience to try something similar though!!

I am trying to finish up a DE army too... I run a wych heavy list, but tend to run them in fives in venoms as tank hunters.

I really like the face details and one thing I plan to do is add some face tatoos as they do give a model something extra.
Modelling-wise, the main issue I have had is just how delicate some of the components are (My other army is a chunky SM force!) I have had razorflails break, which are a pain to repair...

Hahaha, yes I have noticed that as well very easy for stuff to break on DE, I already broke a chain or two on the sail of my raider. I am going to run my wych cult army as a fast assault, going to run a talos pain engine and some grotesques down the middle being the official focal point as my raiders move into position for and swift assault, move, disembark, assault. Then while my wyches tie up most of the shooting threat, my talos can move in with the grotesques to mop up the remaining. Mean while my reaver jet bikes can swing around and take down what attempts to flee or the softer units hiding in back. My raiders will have protection from the jet bikes and also the raider lances can chew through most armor. I might tie a ravager instead of the talos depending on battle field circumstances.

@EVERYONE: it is all your guys positive comments and anticipation that's driving me to finish these models all your excitement is getting me jazzed to see what the final result will be, as well as read your comments.

Man, im glad that i clicked in on here to take a look.. makes me sad that i just sold of my Dark Eldar!

This is the first time ive really seen the checkered pattern applied to anything other then the Harliquin units and i absolutely love it, it fits with the Wyches brilliantly. Im wondering, how long does it actually take to complete the patterning on the suits?

To complete 1 model, from clipping filing the mold lines, priming, painting, matte sealing it, and basing takes about 3-4hrs per model. The longest part was figuring out the pattern, how I wanted the model positioned and what weapons, then figuring out how I paint the small details to make each model individualized.

I am stuck! I have my hydra gauntlets but I don't know how I want to paint them!!! :(

They are poison weapons and I want them to stand out and be a little different...

I think this is the color scheme I am going to try and use on the container part of my splinter pistols. I think it will give a very cool dark energies "splinter pistol/rifle/cannon" look harnessing the dark energies.

Dude they are epic!!!!! Seriously the best I've seen! Its great inspiration for a Monday morning, I've got a week off and now contemplating buying a box of de, painting them then throwing them straight in the bin as they would never be worthy lol.

But seriously man they are real inspiration. Can't wait to see the rest of the army!!!!!!!

@Cakie: Thank you, I am glad I inspire. As for going to the bin, I don't believe that! You just need to think out the box and find your own epic design!

@Everyone: please give me feedback on the little practice piece of dark energies please I need to see if that's the right fit.

It looks quite interesting I think. I would suggest you test it out on a spare weapon if your unsure if it will work for you or not.
