this is why every game that has tried the "big setting changing battle" has pretty much backtracked.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Fall of Medusa V was about the only campaign that didn't backfire, and that's only because they'd learned their lesson from EOT and Armageddon, and just left the whole planet nuked to smithereens at the end.

Think of something clever to say.

So as we all know (and endlessly debate), The Black Legion controls the majority of ground across Cadia. The Guard have pulled back to the far side of the planet to hold out against a major assault. In the skies, the Imperial Navy has the upper hand, preventing Abaddon from receiving any more reinforcements from his fleet.

If the Imperial Navy has air superiority however, what is stopping them from providing new reinforcements to the defenders, or bombing Abaddon from above? Getting new ships to Cadia seems tricky with the Warp storms isolating planets throughout the sector, but that shouldn't stop ships already there from providing fire support or landing actions.

Well firstly, Chaos doesn't need air superiority to call in reinforcements. They simply punch a hole in the warp and rip out more warbands. Besides the obvious response of 'GW is lazy', with Chaos having taken over the majority of the ground, they should have obtained fortresses on the planet with large macrocannons, lancers, etc- all capable of blasting enemy cruisers out of orbit. As fluff tells us, these things are void shielded and costly to physically bombard, with the most economic route to simply send in ground troops. So, if Cadia does have any such anti-orbital defenses, it should prevent the Imperium from dropping support in.

The better question would be 'why doesn't Chaos simply blow up Cadia entirely and then jump through the gate unhindered by a planetary body?'

According to my source the 13th BC has been retconn'd, this why will see new novels leading up to it and then a series based around it.

Well then, what's your source? You simply can site an anonymous source and attempt to state it as evidence without it being backed. GW employee? Black Library writer?

I don't find it "weird" so much as "disappointing", as GW had stated that the results of the WW Campaign would direct the setting of the game...

... and then when Chaos whooped unholy amounts of ass, GW backtracked and somewhat invalidated a lot of their victories, as otherwise it would mean revamping large sections of several armies.

I wish GW had had the guts to just take what the campaign results had handed them and gone with it. Would people bitch that Cadia was lost? Yes. Does that mean that all Cadian figs are now useless? No.

This is my gripe with the entire setting and Spess Marin fans thinking they stand a chance in this fight. It's inevitable. Chaos paid 10,000 years to make sure Terra falls. So let Terra fall, adapt and overcome. Isn't that what Marines are all about anyways?

I interpret that as ADB saying that the campaign didn't end the way the studio was expecting, it moved things too far forward than they wanted to, and they felt that it was not good for the setting. So they've rolled the clock back a bit in 6th Ed to the very start of the 13th Black Crusade, and the events of the WW Campaign no longer matter.

That's their prerogative. I think it's gak-brain stupid, but that's their choice, it's their product.

However, I think of greater importance, and interest, was what ADB was quoted as saying at the beginning of that thread. Unfortunately, none of that matters anymore, because they've rolled the clock back. It is implied, however, that the loss of Cadia was the Beginning of the End for the Imperium, in that Chaos fleets could now leave the Eye of Terror virtually unopposed.

It's too bad that's not the case anymore.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I just turn a blind eye to the 13th black crusade and pretend it never happened... Really, as one who bought Cadians just before the Great Fluff Rustling, I want to continue to imagine Cadia as steadfast and resolute against the literal brink of destruction.

Fight the canon! Rewrite the canon! Resist the tyrannical system of "official canon"! We can do it if we work together! /

One could say the Imperium has paid for ten thousand years to keep Terra standing, so it should be allowed to stand.

Marines are about honouring ten thousand years of history and tradition and preserving Emperor and Imperium.
